  • AdheyatvA (i.e. being supported by a sarIrI): Existence of the sarIrA(body) is due to the sarIrI i.e. sarIrI supports the sarIrA. In other words, if sarIrI ceases to exist, sarIrA also ceases to exist.
  • niyamyatvA (i.e. being controlled by a sarIrI): Not only that sarIrA derives its existence from a sarIrI, it is also being controlled by the sarIrI. So, sarIrA acts as per the will/desires of sarIrI.
  • seshatvA It is to be noted that the "sarIrI" needn't be physically present inside a "sarIrA". This is not a condition to be met out for the sarIra-sarIrI bhAvA to hold good. sAstrAs declare that Bhakti and prapatti are the only two means (sAdhya upAyAs) by which the baddha jIvAtmAs can attain moksham, while the Divya Dampati are the Siddha upAyam. PART 1: WHO IS A VAISHNAVA?
Excerpts from the talk delivered at the “Ahobila Matam Acharya Vaibhavam
Conference” held at “Rajadhani Mandir”, Chantilly, Virginia
    on 1st and 2nd September 2001.
    Dear Bhagavatas:
The topic allotted to me is “Sri Sannidhi and Sri Vaishnavam”
The word “Sri”, as you all know, refers to Thayar, who is known to be inseparable from Perumal and this is the fulcrum of our Siddhantam common not only to all Matams and Ashramamas but also to individual Yathis, Scholars and lay folk alike. But, how come “Ahobila Matam” alone claims to be “Sri Sannidhi” as if “Sri” is its monopoly, an apparent attempt at over-reaching! Please think it over. I will revert to this issue at the end of this talk. I would prefer to reverse the title as “Srivaishnavam and Sri Sannidhi” and discuss “Sri Vaishnavam” first. PART 1: WHO IS A VAISHNAVA?

In this calendar the standard time for fast days and festival days and the time by which the fast should be broken (paran) is presented according to Calcutta time, i.e. Sri Mayapura time. Frequently these dates and times in other countries will vary from those of Sri Mayapura and therefore have been calculated separately. They are noted in this calendar. All break fast times are relative to the time of local sunrise, so devotees will have to make adjustments for breaking fasts according to the time of local sunrise in their own countries. saranagati - surrender
saranagati index editor The very basis of pure devotional life is saranagati which in a word means surrender. The prerequisite for pure devotional service is saranagati . First surrender, then pure devotional service begins. There are many varieties of devotional services performed under the names of karma misra-bhakti and jnana misra-bhakti (fruitive activity and philosophical speculation). However, these are not to be confused with suddha-bhakti or pure devotional service. by Gosai Publishers and Mandala Publishing Group saranagati

T HE E TYMOLOGICAL development of the word aparadha is radhat arthat aradhanat- apagatah, which means "to be distanced from worship."
Offenses committed at the lotus feet of Vaishnavas, the Devotees, distance one from devotional service to the Supreme Lord. But in a higher sense it means to be removed from the service of Sri Radha. All divine service to Krishna is being conducted under her direction. To offend her servitors is to make one unfit for her divine service. The whole aim of Krishna consciousness is radha-dasyam, the divine service of Sri Radha, and offenses at the lotus feet of Vaishnavas make one unfit for such service. The Lord is overly protective of his devotees ( bhakta-vatsala ). He cannot tolerate any offenses against them. They have bhakti (devotion), and they can awaken it within us. Bhakti is the sole means to attract Krishna, who is a slave of devotion. The same is true of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. The

He left it at the doorstep of the royal hall and went inside. Sita saw the bow, ran to it and began playing with it as if it was a play-horse. Only those with great physical strength and daring could lift and handle the 'Vaishnava' bow. When Parashurama came out, the bow was missing I Ordinary persons could not lift it with ease and he, curiously looking around, spotted Sita playing with it as if it was a play-horse I The sage and the king were astonished. Sage Parashurama blessed Sita and said to king Janaka: "Dear king, only a great, strong person can wed this girl of such capacity. Arrange a 'Swayamvara' (where the brides choose their spouses) for her and let the most suitable person marry her." In course of time, Sita and Urmila attained maturity.
