Ven. Bhikku Buddha Dhatu (Thich Minh Thien) Buddha Relics Vihara is the Australian centre for the indigenous Vietnamese Buddhist order "Tang Gia Khat Si" , normally referred to in English as the Mendicant Buddhist Order. This order was founded in Southern Vietnam by the Buddhist Master Minh Dang Quang, and represents a unique blend of Theravada and Mahayana Buddhism. This reflects the religious climate of the Southern provinces of Vietnam, where both traditions are strongly represented. Master Minh Dang Quang went missing during the political turmoil of the 1950's, and his disappearance is observed each year as a religious ceremony by the Monks and Nuns of this order.
The Sangha observe the Vinaya quite strictly, and do not handle money or wear shoes. They eat once daily, and are strict vegetarians. The Sangha members can be observed every morning walking silently through the streets of Cabramatta on their alms round.
The temple in Sydney was originally established by the Ven. Bhikku Buddha Dhatu, but now he is a true mendicant, and travels throughout Australia and the world, spreading the Dhamma. The Vihara is now primarily a Nuns residence, though there is a kuti outside for the Venerable monk, and he stays there whenever he's in Sydney.

The Universal Buddhist Congregation (UBC), which meets in East Boston, was started in 1985 by Rev. Thich Giac Duc, who is the spiritual leader of the community. The extended community consists of between 2,000 and 3,000 people, with 50 attending services on an average day. Young people are a focus of this community, and it is not unusual for half of those gathered to be children and teenagers. There are activities for the youngsters after the Sunday services, which are held on the fully renovated first floor which includes a large hall, a kitchen and a dining room. The youth are part of the International Buddhist Youth, an organization started in the 1930s, which has over 20,000 members in the United States, and three million around the world. The Universal Buddhist Congregation is unique in that the monks are allowed to marry. They observe the same vows as other monks, except that abstention from sex becomes fidelity in marriage. The UBC believes that married monks can be closer to the people, that sexual desires can be overcome with meditation and do not preclude marriage, and that marriage and procreation are important for some monks as well as for lay people. Contact: Mr. Tan Nguyen on Sunday between 10:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M.

GA-TE GA-TE PARA-GA-TE PARASAM-GA-TE BODHI SVAHA! (The mantra of the Profound Perfection of Transcedent Wisdom) BUDDHA'S LAST WORDS The last words of Buddha Sakyamuni before He enters Nirvada.
    Parinirvana Sutra
O bhikshus! Do not grieve! Even if I were to live in the world for as long as a kalpa, our coming together would have to end.
You should know that all phenomena in the world are impermanent; coming together inevitably means parting. Do not be sad, for this is the nature of life. Diligently practicing Right effort, you must seek liberation immediately. Within the light of wisdom, destroy the darkness of ignorance. Nothing is secure. Everything in this life is precarious. Always wholeheartedly seek the way of liberation. All things in the world, whether moving or non-moving, are characterised by disappearance and instability. Stop now! Do not speak! Time is passing. I am about to cross over. This is my final teaching.

Archived Entry [Buddhism] Vietnamese police break up protest by dissident Buddhists Item Religion News Blog http://www.gospelcom.net/apologeticsindex/rnb/archives/00001248.html AP, Nov. 21, 2002 http://www.modbee.com/ HANOI, Vietnam(AP) - Vietnamese police forced their way into a temple in southern Vietnam and broke up a two-week protest by followers of a dissident Buddhist group, church officials said Tuesday. During the protest, Vo Van Thanh Liem, a priest, took refuge in a tree behind the Quang Minh Tu Temple to avoid arrest, they said. The followers of Hoa Hao Buddhism were attempting to resist a government order that they remove the temple's gate, a U.S.-based support group said. Hoa Hao Buddhism, which claims more than 1 million members, was officially sanctioned by Vietnam's Communist government in 1999 after a Communist Party-approved leadership was put in place. The protest was held by a non-approved splinter group that objects to Communist control. Government officials in Long Dien hamlet in An Giang province ordered the removal of the temple's gate on Nov. 6, a day after followers at another temple in Kien Thanh hamlet were forced to remove their temple's sign and religious flag, the California-based Central Council of Administrators of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Church said.
