Aerospace Engineering
What does an aerospace engineer do?
Aerospace engineers design, analyze, model, simulate, and test aircraft, spacecraft, satellites, missiles, and rockets. Aerospace technology also extends to many other applications of objects moving within gases or liquids. Examples are golf balls, high-speed trains, hydrofoil ships, or tall buildings in the wind. Aerospace engineers are typically specialists in fields with fancy names such as aerodynamics, propulsion, navigation, flight testing, and more.

MS-MBA Dual Degree Program Website! Tenure Track position in Biomedical Engineering Condra Chair of Excellence ... Meet the MABE faculty... Welcome to the MABE Department's Web site. On this page is some basic information on the MABE department. Please peruse our site and get in-touch with us if you have any questions. If you are new to our site, or to engineering in general, you might ask "What do Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineers do?" The trademarks of mechanical engineering are: 1) power generation and 2) power transmission. The origin of modern day mechanical engineering goes back to James Watt and the steam engine. Today, ME's are more interested in: steam turbines, gas turbines, internal combustion engines and hybrid electric vehicles. Because of the broad background in the applied sciences, ME's are found in nearly every industry and at all levels of engineering and management. Aerospace engineering deals with both aircraft and space systems. The curriculum includes courses on airplane performance, aerodynamics, compressible flow, aerospace propulsion, structures, and astronautics. During their senior year, students participate in a capstone design project on a topic that they help to choose. Recent projects have included the design of both civil and military aircraft as well as the design and construction of a working hybrid rocket engine. Employment opportunities have been very good, with graduates from recent classes going to work for Boeing, Honeywell, Lockheed-Martin, and China Lake Naval Air Warfare Center.

If you have problems viewing the website, please e-mail the webmaster The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Aviation (AEA) was formed in 1994 by consolidating the former Departments of Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (AAE) and Aviation (AVI) as a result of restructuring of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. Within the new AEA Department the Aerospace Engineering (AER) Section offers the Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (AAE) Degree Program and the Aviation (AVI) Section offers the Aviation Degree Program. Thanks to the new academic and research opportunities the consolidation offers, The Department of AEA is poised to take on the challenge of providing solutions to the societal problems of the state and the nation for the 21st century through technology and education. You are welcome to visit our department! We will be pleased to give you or your group a guided tour of our impressive laborotories and an upfront first-hand information on the career opportunities that will be open to you by a degree from one of our programs in Aerospace Engineering or Aviation. Please contact the Department Chairman if you are interested in visiting us.
