Research Highlights
Gene regulation mechanisms revealed
Transcriptional regulation of gene expression is one of the most central control points in biological systems. The Arnosti and Henry laboratories are investigating the role of the Retinoblastoma tumor suppressor protein (Rb) as a transcriptional repressor in human cells and in Drosophila. Through understanding of this and related proteins, these researchers aim to achieve a fundamental understanding of gene regulation in development and disease processes. More information on these and other groups involved in the Gene Expression in Development and Disease Focus Group is available at http://www.bch.msu.edu/GEDD

    Welcome!
to the home page of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. The Department is located with the other departments of chemistry and Life Sciences in the Arrhenius Laboratories for Natural Sciences, which are situated in the northern part of the University Campus at Frescati. Presently 150 people are working at the Department of which about 70 are PhD students engaged in internationally highly recognized research covering a broad range of subjects. The Department is also deeply involved in teaching, with courses at all undergraduate levels. A close link between the undergraduate program and the research projects has since long been a tradition at the Department. I hope that you will enjoy our home page and find the information you need. If not feel free to contact me or any of my colleagues at the Department.

The Department of Biochemistry at Purdue University is committed to basic research and training undergraduate, graduate, and professional students for careers in biochemistry, molecular biology, and related life sciences. Our faculty, graduate students, and staff are located in the Biochemistry Building with additional offices and laboratories in the Hansen Life Science Research Building and Whistler Hall. All faculty members participate in both the Biochemistry Graduate Program and the interdisciplinary Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB) program. Some of our faculty also mentor graduate students from the Purdue Genetics Plant Biology Virology , and Biophysics graduate training programs. Click here for a list of faculty members affiliated with each of these interdisciplinary training programs. The department is expanding and will add at least five new faculty members over the next five years. We are currently seeking to fill several positions in 2002/2003 webmaster
