Dairy Science Home Academic Programs Research Extension Service ... Dairy Research and Training Facility Dairy Science Department T he SDSU College of Agriculture and biological Sciences combines a modern, practical curriculum in dairy science with what is regarded as the top dairy product processing and manufacturing program in the U.S. for both undergraduates and post graduates. Although the department has the largest enrollment of dairy manufacturing majors in the U.S., the demand for SDSU graduates far outstrips the supply. The SDSU Dairy Science Department represents the three responsibilities of a land-grant university: teaching, research, and Extension. Spring 1999 student enrollment was 68. Job placement for graduating seniors is 100 percent S DSU's dairy science program is built on a long tradition that began with establishment of South Dakota's land-grant university in 1881. The first 25 dairy cows arrived on campus in 1896.
Academic Programs for Dairy Science students

The SDSU Dairy Science Department offers programs allowing undergraduate students to specialize in either dairy production or dairy manufacturing. Graduate degrees are also offered. Dairy Science Research and Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) projects
The SDSU Dairy Production and Research Unit houses a herd of 180 animals and is a research center in feeding, breeding and managing a dairy herd. It is also the site for training in dairy cattle evaluation and other aspects of production.
