IRRISOFT
IRRISOFT is an Irrigation and Hydrology Software Database which provides information on irrigation and hydrology software and links to servers containing the software packages and further information. Numerous irrigation programs have been written by individuals or groups and are available as public domain, shareware or commercial software. Additional information on the development and structure of IRRISOFT is given on a separate page.
Objectives
The objectives of IRRISOFT are to give an overview of irrigation and hydrology programs available and to facilitate the retrieval and distribution by opening up download facilities or by e-mail order through the World Wide Web. This service has been started by

CEH Merlewood About Us Our Science How to find us ... CEH Web Radioanalytical Laboratories The radioanalytical laboratory at Merlewood has the capability to analyse a wide range of artificial and naturally occurring radionuclides in the environment. Our counting facilities include ten high-resolution gamma detectors, eight alpha detectors, and a high-sensitivity liquid scintillation counter suitable for both alpha and beta emitters. The laboratory has extensive experience in analysing environmental and biological materials for gamma-emitting radionuclides, transuranic elements and beta emitters. These analyses are carried out mainly in support of research funded by government organisations, the European Community and the private sector. The laboratory provides analytical support for research in the following areas:
  • coastal and salt marsh environments upland and lowland ecosystems Chernobyl-derived radionuclides monitoring surveys around nuclear facilities food surveillance and ingestion doses
Sample types routinely analysed
  • soils and soil fractions
  • silts and sediment cores
  • vegetation - grass, heather, hay, moss, litter layer, root mat

46. Examples Of Hydrology AMLs For ArcInfo 7.0
Example scripts for creating watersheds, drainage path delineation, inland catchments, soils investigation, TINs based on irregular polygon boundaries, and watershed delineation. Also has many links to research papers/projects. Hosted by Center for Research in Water Resources, University of Texas, circa 1997.

Examples of Hydrology AMLs for ArcInfo 7.0
Creating a Watershed Base Map
Creates a point coverage of flow gages within a specified watershed or set of watersheds and attaches attribute data from input ascii files to that coverage. Also projects the created coverage out of geographic coordinates.
Digital Line Graphs
Describes the process of downloading Digital Line Graph (DLG) data from CDROM and preparing it for regional analysis within the confines of a particular hydrologic or political boundary.
Drainage Path Delineation
Must be run subsequent to Watershed Delineation AML (see below). Delineates drainage paths to subwatershed outlet points within a watershed, given a "filled" grid for a particular area or region of interest.
Inland Catchments
Addresses the problem of inland catchments with Digital Elevation Models, during watershed delineation. Inland catchments constitute closed hydrologic systems that do not drain to the ocean, as most watersheds. In inland catchments, water drains towards an inland pour point located within the basin, and not towards the basin border, which usually occurs.
Land Use/Land Cover Files
NOT AN AML. Describes the process of accessing the USGS Land Use/Land Cover (LULC) Files from various sources and preparing the data for analysis with other data coverages within a particular hydrologic or political region.

The focus of this work is on the application of unsaturated zone hydrology to closure of tailings and waste rock storage facilities. Download our Statement of Qualifications Note: Our Statement of Qualifications is in PDF format. Click here if you need Abode Acrobat Reader. O'Kane Consultants endeavor to apply current and innovative technology, while working closely with clients in developing cost effective mine waste management solutions that offer the greatest potential for long-term environmental protection. O'Kane Consultants also assist clients in developing and demonstrating new technology through innovative applied research projects. Mine waste rock dumps and cover systems required for closure are by definition unsaturated systems as a result of placing the waste rock on the ground surface. In addition, many tailings management facilities, particularly those in arid and semi-arid climates, have exposed tailings that are also unsaturated. The traditional application of saturated soil mechanics to the design and construction of waste rock dumps, tailings management facilities, and cover systems will lead to conservative, and hence more costly designs. Utilization of unsaturated zone hydrology reduces the cost of operating, managing, and closing mine waste storage facilities, while serving as a tool for developing the most promising alternative for long-term environmental protection.
