Formerly Skin Pharmacology An innovative approach to recent developments In the past decade research into skin pharmacology has developed dramatically with new and promising drugs and therapeutic concepts being introduced regularly. Recent examples include immunosuppressive topicals, and new strategies in the therapy of malignant melanoma and wound healing. New concepts have also been developed in traditional areas of skin therapy and skin care which have led to discussions of issues such as ‘cosmeceuticals’ in the United States, ‘quasi-drugs’ in Japan, and the 6th Amendment of the Cosmetic Regulation in the European Union. There are many open questions which reflect the importance of the subject and the need for a new international scientific forum where they can be discussed in extenso. Dermatologists, pharmaceutical chemists, pharmacologists, toxicologists, and others interested in the subject are invited to contribute to this exciting project and to submit their best research work for publication. Forthcoming Special Topics Pigmentation Sun Protection Vitiligo Hair Loss Retinoids Psoriasis Papilloma Virus Infection Invitation for Papers Only original papers written in English will be considered. Manuscripts should be sent to:

36. Pharmacology Research Group - Addiction Treatment Research
The PRG of the HaightAshbury Free Clinics in San Francisco conducts clinical trials of medications and therapeutic interventions for the treatment of addiction.
http://www.research-hafci.org/home.asp
The Pharmacology Research Group (PRG) of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics in San Francisco has been conducting clinical trials of medications and therapeutic interventions for the treatment of addiction since 1990.
Historically, the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics have been on the forefront of treatment provision for people suffering from addictions. The clinics have always provided a combination of medications, to combat the acute withdrawal symptoms that can sabotage treatment, with psychosocial interventions targetted at the behavioral component of addiction. This whole person approach is now widely used across the country and indeed the world.
As an affiliate of the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics, Inc., PRG taps into this rich body of experience while seeking to extend our collection of tools to help combat addiction. PRG researchers develop study protocols based on a thorough evaluation of the pre-clinical and clinical literature and conduct in-house studies with government and private funding. In addition, PRG has participated as a site in numerous pharmaceutical company funded trials in pursuit of FDA indications.
All medication trials conducted by PRG include free psychosocial interventions for all participants. While the efficacy on any given medication is unknown until the trial is complete, we know that counselling can be effective, and such treatment is always provided by our masters level and above therapists. Clinical trials designed to test the efficacy of a particular kind of psychosocial intervention always compare this new intervention with an equivalent level of standard intervention.
