Runoff Management
Thirty years ago this month the Clean Water Act started the work of recovering the nation's troubled waters. Are we ready for the next stage? "Environmentally progressive states like Wisconsin have forged ahead, notably by passing comprehensive rules to require farms, cities and construction sites to reduce polluted runoff, now regarded as the largest remaining pollution threat to Wisconsin's waters." Natural Resources Magazine (October 2002, Lisa Gaumnitz) The Runoff Management website provides the information and resources needed to effectively manage polluted runoff from agricultural practices, storm water drainage and nonpoint sources (pollution not identified as caused by a specific source) in Wisconsin.

Wastewater Pollution in China by Kris Min ABSTRACT Wastewater pollution has always been a major problem throughout the world. The lack of suitable water used for drinking, agriculture, farming, etc. has declined through the years. With a shortage of water throughout the world, proper methods of treating and recycling water is the key goal in sustaining our limited water resource supply. Geographically speaking, the wastewater pollution within China has affected the environment, society, and agriculture. The water pollution crisis in China has brought up an issue of efficient wastewater treatment methods to help alleviate their problems. Throughout this paper, we will discuss the topics on the effects of wastewater pollution towards the environment and the society (health factors, agriculture, economic impacts, etc). At the same time, proposals for wastewater treatment procedures and facilities to help the water crisis in China will be discussed. INTRODUCTION The lack of clean water has always been an issue of environmental concern all over the world. This environmental issue is mainly stressed in developing countries today. The main sources of water pollution are: industrial (chemical, organic, and thermal wastes), municipal (largely sewage consisting of human wastes, other organic wastes, and detergents), and agricultural (animal wastes, pesticides, and fertilizers) (Brower et.al, 1990). For the past several years, China has been affected with the water pollution crisis. Three examples of wastewater pollution crisis in China are the City of Tianjin, the Chao Lakes and Xian City.

NITRATE POLLUTION OF WATER BY AGRICULTURE
Stay informed - Sign up for our email alert service Nitrate levels in many English waters, both ground and surface waters, are increasing. Nitrate pollution is of concern because it has to be removed before water can be supplied to consumers, and it can harm the water environment. Over 70% of nitrate enters water from agricultural land. The following pages provide details of action to reduce agricultural nitrate pollution, which is one aspect of the broader problem of diffuse pollution from agriculture. We are also taking action to reduce similar pollution from other sources. For example, the Urban Waste Water Treatment Regulations 1994 aim to reduce pollution, including nitrate pollution, from sewage treatment works and industry.

New Tests Find High Arsenic Levels On Outdoor Wooden Playsets
Group Seeks Government Ban And Refunds for Consumers
Washington, March 17-The Environmental Working Group today asked the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ban the use of arsenic-treated wood in outdoor play structures and to order consumer refunds for millions of playsets nationwide, based on a new round of laboratory tests that found high levels of arsenic contamination even on older pressure-treated wooden structures. EWG said the action was further justified by recent findings from government scientists that arsenic is a more potent cancer agent, and a higher risk for children, than previously believed. EWG presented testimony at a CPSC hearing today on a commission report issued in February. That report concluded that arsenic-treated wood in playsets poses a serious risk of cancer but did not recommend a ban or consumer refunds. Read the testimony

    http://www.nrdc.org/water/oceans/default.asp
Our vast oceans may seem indestructable, but pollution, habitat destruction and overfishing have taken a serious toll on them. With a range of strategies, NRDC seeks to preserve and restore the extraordinary diversity of ocean life and the quality of coastal waters. For nine years, we have published critical information and garnered extensive media coverage about beach pollution, leading to increased beachwater monitoring and public notification of pollution problems. We are promoting the designation of "wilderness waters," ecologically sensitive ocean areas afforded the kind of protection we've long given to special places on land. We work to ban offshore oil and gas drilling in sensitive coastal areas. And we actively promote sound coastal zone management on both coasts.

    Testing the Waters
NRDC's 12th annual survey of water quality monitoring and public notification programs at U.S. beaches finds that beach closings and swimmer advisories continued to climb between 2000 and 2001, reflecting better monitoring and reporting, but also pointing to major water pollution problems. The survey, published in July 2002, is based on information reported for 2001. Includes detailed beach rating maps.

is an environmentally preferable fuel for diesel boilers, and can be produced at any place by your own without any regulation limitation. It is renewable and sustainable. It is naturally and quickly biodegradable. Compared with fossil derived fuels, it has generally lower emissions, saves energy and improves air quality. The most important, GreenDiesel-WO2 is only 50% of the fossil diesel fuel cost, and yet you are able to produce more than 2000 liters of GreenDiesel-WO2 a day at your boiler room without any up front capital investment in equipment. GreenDiesel-WO2 is a very positive energy balance fuel. Emissions from GreenDiesel-WO2 after fired are far better than fire from fossil fuels and GreenDiesel-WO2 is safe, low flashpoint and no special storage space is needed.

The primary mission of the Metropolitan District is to provide safe pure drinking water and environmentally responsible sewage collection and treatment. In addition, the Metropolitan District serves as a steward for some of the most well preserved natural resources in the State of Connecticut. In support of its mission The District collects and processes over 80 million gallons of combined sanitary and storm water. MDC's four water pollution control facilities treat wastewater from member towns. Other responsibilities of the District include processing 860,000 tons of solid waste annually for the State’s Mid-Connecticut project maintenance of the Connecticut River and shoreline as part of the Riverfront Recapture Project , and household hazardous waste collection Management of the municipal watershed and operation of two hydroelectric facilities that produce power for more than 3,000 homes are part of MDC's commitment to maintaining a strong natural environment. A comprehensive forestry program along with MDC's own logging crew is part of the management of the municipal watershed . The District maintains a demo forest as a living classroom to demonstrate forestry and its impact on people, wildlife and the environment. MDC also works closely with the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
