In this case, your neighbor is a partner from this class. You two decide to start your own organization. Your goal is to educate others on why we need to protect the ocean and how we can do it. With a shortage of water throughout the world, proper methods of treating and recycling water is the key goal in sustaining our limited water resource supply. Geographically speaking, the wastewater pollution within China has affected the environment, society, and agriculture. The water pollution crisis in China has brought up an issue of efficient wastewater treatment methods to help alleviate their problems. Throughout this paper, we will discuss the topics on the effects of wastewater pollution towards the environment and the society (health factors, agriculture, economic impacts, etc). At the same time, proposals for wastewater treatment procedures and facilities to help the water crisis in China will be discussed. INTRODUCTION The lack of clean water has always been an issue of environmental concern all over the world. This environmental issue is mainly stressed in developing countries today. The main sources of water pollution are: industrial (chemical, organic, and thermal wastes), municipal (largely sewage consisting of human wastes, other organic wastes, and detergents), and agricultural (animal wastes, pesticides, and fertilizers) (Brower et.al, 1990). For the past several years, China has been affected with the water pollution crisis. Three examples of wastewater pollution crisis in China are the City of Tianjin, the Chao Lakes and Xian City.

Section 303(d) of the law requires states to identify all waters that are failing to meet the state's water quality standards . These waters remain impaired even though the existing regulatory and permitting requirements have been put in place. The state is required to develop a Total Maximum Daily Load for all waters on the 303(d) list. The TMDL is a mathematical calculation of the amount of a specific pollutant a waterbody can absorb and still meet water quality standards. Each TMDL document will include allocations of the acceptable load for all sources of the pollutant. It will also include an implementation plan to identify how the load will be reduced to a level that will protect water quality.

Both of their websites, Oceana.org and Earth911.org post weekly Internet updates of pollution levels in waters off every coastal North Carolina county. Jackie Savitz, director of an anti-pollution campaign organized by Oceana, said the information is tied to fecal coliform bacteria levels detected by state inspectors. If the bacteria is found in the water, this means the waters have been polluted by human or animal waste. This waste can make people sick. Officials expect to use another method for testing enterococcus bacteria by the end of the summer. Federal officials feel this new test is more effective in telling about waste levels in the water. North Carolina doesn't close its beach waters if unhealthy bacteria levels are found but the state will post warnings for swimmers. WATER POLLUTION AND SOCIETY By David Krantz and Brad Kifferstein INTRODUCTION Comprising over 70% of the Earth’s surface, water is undoubtedly the most precious natural resource that exists on our planet. Without the seemingly invaluable compound comprised of hydrogen and oxygen, life on Earth would be non-existent: it is essential for everything on our planet to grow and prosper. Although we as humans recognize this fact, we disregard it by polluting our rivers, lakes, and oceans. Subsequently, we are slowly but surely harming our planet to the point where organisms are dying at a very alarming rate. In addition to innocent organisms dying off, our drinking water has become greatly affected as is our ability to use water for recreational purposes. In order to combat water pollution, we must understand the problems and become part of the solution. POINT AND NONPOINT SOURCES According to the American College Dictionary, pollution is defined as: “to make foul or unclean; dirty.” Water pollution occurs when a body of water is adversely affected due to the addition of large amounts of materials to the water. When it is unfit for its intended use, water is considered polluted. Two types of water pollutants exist; point source and nonpoint source. Point sources of pollution occur when harmful substances are emitted directly into a body of water. The Exxon Valdez oil spill best illustrates a point source water pollution. A nonpoint source delivers pollutants indirectly through environmental changes. An example of this type of water pollution is when fertilizer from a field is carried into a stream by rain, in the form of run-off
