Now as to acquaint you with my work, I tried to depict the internal struggles of young corrupted minds that have blended themselves in shame, violence, neglect and abuse... For me, violence conquers innocence... the screams within cannot let go ... and in the long run will cause self destruction…violence can do “great” things indeed... Alexander Castro , "Conqueror"
Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of fearlessness... this mudra symbolizes protection, peace. And the dispelling of fear. I used this kind of mudra to show that we should not be afraid of this terror but rather we should help fight and stop this evil... the hand mudra covers the mouth of a frightened woman, this is to show that we should put an end to all the screaming and crying of the victims. We should start fighting and should not be afraid of this terror. I used some images to add some design in my work that would help in showing my message of stopping the pain and suffering of women. These elements include blood, knife, image of a girl being harassed, and newspaper article... Archie Yumul , " "Fear of Terror (Violence Against Women)"

File Name: 98a0193p.06 UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE SIXTH CIRCUIT Archie I. Floyd, Jr., Petitioner-Appellant, v. George D. Alexander, Warden, Respondent-Appellee. No. 96-3698 Appeal from the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio at Columbus. No. 96-00006John D. Holschuh, District Judge. Submitted: June 15, 1998 Decided and Filed: June 25, 1998 Before: MERRITT, BOGGS, and SUHRHEINRICH, Circuit Judges. COUNSEL ON BRIEF: Archie I. Floyd, Jr., Orient, Ohio, pro se. Charles L. Wille, OFFICE OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, Columbus, Ohio, for Appellee. OPINION MERRITT, Circuit Judge. Pro se petitioner Archie Floyd appeals the district court's dismissal of his second application for federal habeas corpus relief brought pursuant to 28 U.S.C. § 2254. For the reasons discussed below, we affirm the judgment of the district court. In July 1987, Floyd pled guilty to one count of burglary and was sentenced to a term of five to fifteen years to run concurrently with a term imposed for parole violation. A little over a month later, the trial judge entered a nunc pro tunc order amending the sentence to a four to fifteen year term to run consecutively to the sentence for the parole violation. The trial judge entered the nunc pro tunc order to comply with Ohio Rev. Code Ann. § 2929.41(B)(3), which requires that a sentence for a new offense be served consecutively to a sentence for parole violation. The nunc pro tunc order was entered without resentencing petitioner Floyd in open court, in apparent violation of Ohio Criminal Rule 43. A sentence is considered void if it does not conform to the appropriate statutory requirements. The sentencing court, however, retains jurisdiction to reimpose a sentence after a void order and may do so by use of a nunc pro tunc entry.

Archie Alexander – Engineer
Researched by James E. DuBose
B orn in Ottuma, Iowa, Archie Alexander graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1912. Although advised to avoid a career in engineering because of racial prejudice by the head of the University, Alexander persisted and gained recognition. He headed his own civil engineering firm for more than forty years. Among the numerous projects his firm completed are Washington, D.C.’s Tidal Basin Bridge and the K Street Freeway. Although it was, at that time, not illegal to deny work on the basis of race, Alexander competed successfully with white firms building bridges, airfields, sewer systems, and power plants all over the United States. In 1945, President Dwight D. Eisenhower appointed Alexander, governor of the Virgin Islands. Another one of Archie Alexander’s most satisfying jobs was the construction of a million-dollar heating plant using tunnels running under the Iowa River for his alma mater.
Lynchings in the United States
The lynching of African Americans in the South became one of the greatest blots on the American society at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century. In 1862, twelve African Americans were lynched, twenty years later in 1892 the number had reached 255. Within a period of thirty five years not less than 3,200 Negro men and women were lynched within the boundaries of the United States and sometimes the burning or mutilation of victims was savage in its brutality.

ALO: Chelsea had come on to my reality radar screen. Since I’d have to appear to be following Celia‘s direction, I pretended to look for a regular job, ‘cause who knows, with her quirkiness I could be out of house and home if I didn’t get one. I had seen my mother turn on people, and I didn’t want to be one of them. But ‘regular’ was still the last thing on my mind. It may have seemed I was busy with the Want-Ads and Yellow Pages, but I was really reassessing the King’s Road. At the centre of this chinless Chelsea scene (as shallow in its own way as that of Hampstead Village) was a thriving and industrious King’s Road boutique called ‘Bazaar.’ Owned by Mary Quant, her husband Alexander Plunket Greene, and their partner, Archie McNair, Bazaar opened on an elegant shoestring in November, 1955 and swiftly galvanised the pioneering young things that became their earliest patrons. Bazaar’s fashions brought the expressive sexiness only a few daring women would as yet act out in their bedrooms, into an up tight work place transformed by feminine youth. Mary Quant would give the New Workers their cockney-Chanel non-uniform uniform at a price the suddenly eager shoppers thronging the High Streets couldn’t resist. Vidal Sassoon , crimper and entrepreneur: I always said that the King’s Road was Mary’s atelier. She had her shop, right there in the King’s Road, and it was one marvellous show. You could go into the King’s Road, outside Mary Quant’s, and there you had the young people—it was wonderful.

Frederick McKinley Jones Archie Alexander Paul Williams Rosa Parks ...
