Aryabhata
(ur. 476 r. Kusumapura k. Patna, Indie - zm. ok. 550 r.) Staroindyjski astronom, astrolog i matematyk. Jako jeden z pierwszych stosowa³ algebrê, dosyæ dok³adnie okre¶li³ warto¶æ liczby jako 3,1416. W swojej wierszowanej pracy "Aryabhatia" (499 r.) Aryabhata wykazywa³, ¿e Ziemia i inne planety systemu S³onecznego poruszaj± siê wokó³ s³oñca. Obja¶ni³ tam równie¿ takie zjawiska jak nastêpstwo dnia i nocy i naukowo okre¶li³ przyczyny ksiê¿ycowych i s³onecznych zaæmieñ . Miêdzy 950, a 1100 rokiem ¿y³ i pracowa³ jeszcze jeden astronom indyjski, nosz±cy imiê Aryabhata. Jest on autorem obszernego traktatu "Mahasiddhanta" ("Aryasiddhanta"). Polecana literatura:

"Marlowe" asks Kelsey Alright, Kels, you seem like a strong-willed woman who isn't just going to let some man treat you like some kind of puppet. I'll trust your judgment. Here goes: What could I get for a beautiful, intelligent, independent woman to let her know how I feel about her? Kelsey answers: Thanks for the kind words. I'm usually more concerned about what a man takes than what he gives. A good example is "no" for an answer. As for giving me something, a wide berth is most welcome. I appreciate that you have good taste in women. But honestly, the best way to let her know how you feel about her is to just tell her . Trying to ply her with gifts as though that would influence her feelings is like, well... treating her like some kind of puppet. P.S. A $100 gift certificate for Tower Records would be cool. "tom tom" asks Punjabi Why is the sky blue? Punjabi starts to answer, but ... Bradley interrupts: Don't even think of answering that question! Ooni butts in: Because it's a boy!

http://www.secularindia.net/article1.html
Astrology in the Universities: Sense, Nonsense and Science Rahul Roy Vedic astrology traces its origin to Maharshi Parasara's book Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra , a compilation of rules and guidelines with reference to marriage, children, illness, wealth and so on. There are also three Vedanga Jyotishas and eighteen Siddhaantas (Surya Siddhaanta being one of the most notable among them), all of which codify astronomical knowledge primarily to facilitate astrological calculations and elaborate on the rules of worship written in the vedas. As early as 499 A.D. Aryabhata’s magnum opus Aryabhatika differentiated between this “real” and “false” knowledge. He describes true knowledge as a jewel he took “from the ocean of real and false knowledge… with his own intellectual power.” The line separating astrology and astronomy was not drawn in a day; it was the result of over fifteen centuries of painstaking study. But today, it is those who claim to be proud of our heritage that are erasing this line; decrying afresh Aryabhata’s distinction between true and false knowledge; between science and pseudo-science. Equally ironic, it is Murali Manohar Joshi, allegedly a professor of physics, who is leading the pseudo-science brigade in their demolition of Aryabhata’s edifice.
