Smart Videoconferencing
New Habits for Virtual Meetings
By Janelle Barlow, Peta Peter, Lewis Barlow Save Time, Save Money, Get Better Results
Be Your Best on Camera Smart Videoconferencing: New Habits for Virtual Meetings is the first book to show people how to participate effectively in videoconferences, rather than just how to set them up. Previous books address the technical aspects of videoconferencing but do not discuss practical concerns such as how to present oneself professionally on camera-a crucial skill that many businesspeople have never learned. A videoconference requires new approaches that are not needed for in-person meetings. For example, those accustomed to "winging it" in their meetings will find that they appear sorely unprofessional on video. Additionally, videoconferencers' appearances and physical gestures in front of a camera are amplified for remote-site attendees-participants may come across in an entirely different manner from the way they appear in person.

[openaustralia-discuss] Reply to Chris Warren, Janet Barlow, Peter Goth, and Ben Heraghty
Tanner, Lindsay Lindsay.Tanner.MP@aph.gov.au Wed, 23 Jun 1999 12:46:33 +1000 Apologies to Chris Warren for mistakenly referring to wrong tables. This was caused by the fact that I was provided with copies of tables from both the 1997 and 1998 yearbooks, and they got confused. However, I stand by my original point, which Chris now seems to half-concede. He states that I claim "you cannot compare productivity with wages" which I don't. Clearly you can. My point is simply that to make a meaningful comparison you have to use the same base for measurement purposes. Hence comparing manufacturing wages with the productivity of the whole economy, as he does, is inappropriate. To obtain a meaningful comparison you should compare manufacturing wages with manufacturing productivity. I don't support "globalising in a panic". I would argue that we are already three-quarters globalised, and that our traditional dependence on foreign investment and commodity exports provides us with little choice but to accept this reality, while seeking to negotiate the best possible outcome for all Australians.

I link you because either I like you, like your site, or maybe you're hosted here. If you link me and I don't reciprocate, it's probably due to one of these factors: 1. I haven't seen a referrer from you and thus, have no idea you're linking me. 2. Sometimes I go way too long between site updates, and neglect to add all the new links. 3. I can't stand you.
