Joynt Family Chronicles
A One-Name Study Descendants of William Joynt
1. WILLIAM JOYNT was born Bet. 1800 - 1810 in Ireland. Notes for WILLIAM JOYNT: According to a letter written by Paul Joynt 03/06/1977 to Michael Joynt: The father of Christopher and Jack was born in Belfast or near there and when he was about 9 years old his father died. It was a large family and the boy was bound out to his uncle in Dublin. The Belfast Boy was Protestant and the Dublin Uncle was Catholic (his name was Joynt) and that was when their own religion was started. When the boy was about 16 he ran away, stowed on a boat that was bound for Nova Scotia. He landed in Halifax and stayed there. Another story has it that William was sent to his mother's brother-in-law who was Catholic and lived in Southern Ireland. He ran away to Dublin to stow away on a ship. "After arriving in Nova Scotia he ran for miles and hid in a forest for days in fear that he might be found and returned to his Uncle in Ireland." Children of WILLIAM JOYNT are: 2. i. CHRISTOPHER JONES JOYNT, b. November 14, 1830, Halifax, Nova Scotia; d. November 04, 1917, Sterling, Illinois. ii. CYRUS JOYNT. iii. JACK JOYNT. Notes for JACK JOYNT: According to a letter written by Paul Joynt 3/6/77 to Michael Joynt: Christopher Jones Joynt had a brother Jack who was a trapper and lived with Blackhawk and his tribe until the Indians were moved to Wisconsin on a reservation which was about 1912. As far as we know he went back to Masachusetts to live and at that time he was about 74 or 75. We don't think he was ever married.

69. The History Of Hillcrest Lodge
Harold bateman, harry Jones, Fred Mayes and Jim Guinn had planned to attend theGrand Lodge meeting. However, a phone call from DDGM McKee moved up the trip.
http://www.hillcrest-lodge.org/history.htm
The History of Hillcrest Lodge The formation of Hillcrest Lodge came out of an idea which can be contributed to a deceased brother, Clarence A. Meyer, Jr. It was in the latter part of 1946 or the early part of 1947 that this brother contacted Brother Fred Mayes and solicited his help in the forming of a Masonic Club on the campus of SMU. Together they contacted the District Deputy Grand Master Walter Brasher, and found that it would be against Masonic Law to form such a club. In the spring of 1948 Fred Mayes contacted Claude Lundell, who had shown interest in Clarence A. Meyer, Jr.'s idea. They again contacted Walter Brasher and he suggested that they form a study club under the sponsorship of Highland Park Lodge. This club was to be composed of SMU students who were Masons. Fred and Claude did form such a club but it had a short life. For some reason interest in this club was not properly stimulated. Then came the real beginning of Hillcrest Lodge. In the early summer of 1948, Fred Mayes noticed that the current District Deputy Grand Master John McKee was to make a speech at Landmark Lodge on the subject: "The Formation of a New Lodge." Fred contacted Claude Lundell and together they attended this meeting. At the end of this meeting, they approached John McKee with the idea of forming a new Lodge in the vicinity of SMU. DDGM McKee indicated interest in their plan and promised to contact them later. Soon afterward the District Deputy Grand Master furnished Fred with the necessary forms for organizing a new Lodge.
