      William McEwen Pioneer to Ohio
In 1823 William McEwen of Mt. Bethel, Northampton Co PA packed up his entire family and migrated to Ohio. McEwen is a Scotch-Irish name. It is believed that the family came to the United States prior to the Revolutionary War. There was a man named John McQuown living in Northampton Co., PA in the township of Lower Mt. Bethel at the time of the Revolutionary War. This John McQuown was a soldier from Mt. Bethel,PA from 1776 - 1781. John McEwen was married to Sarah Harris.
It is believed that John's son was William McEwen who was born at Berwick, PA on Nov. 8, 1775. The family, like so many other Scotch -Irish, were people who lived on the outer edge of the settled areas of the time. They relocated many times between Northampton Co. and Columbia, Co., PA.
When a young man William came to Easton PA to learn the trade of blacksmith, which became his life's work. He married Sarah Johnson and together they had a family of 21 children. William and Sarah bought and sold property in both Berwick, Columbia, Co. PA and Mt. Bethel, Northampton, Co., PA.
In 1823 William and Sarah McEwen pioneered west to Seneca Co., Ohio where they were one of the first families to open up this territory for settlement. Their son John returned to Mt. Bethel to marry his sweetheart, Anna Houck.

    1905 Census for South Berwick
South Berwick Post Office Please note that this Town Census was divided into separate post offices. The other pages are combined with the post office listed after each name. Please be sure and check each page. The good news is the streets are now given following the names. The other thing that is different in this book is the addresses of non-residents are listed in the back so I have created a separate page for them. If you see an asterisk in front of a name, that person is no longer a resident and you may look for them on the non-resident page. Questions or concerns? Contact the web owner.

    • NOTE Not great quality, especially on the older families. Author seems to be a bit "approximate." Not much research done on collateral lines. Distinct and frequent differences with the Perkins Family Genealogy in the "Register," Vol 10.
