    At the outset, one might ask "what is a satellite?." A satellite is an object that revolves round a planet. For a successful orbiting around the earth, it's essential for a satellite to attain a speed of about 20,000 kms per hour. Satellites are launched by very powerful rockets. From a historical perspective, the first Indian satellite was Aryabhata, which was launched by a soviet rocket on 19th April 1975. This was launched from a cosmodrome near Moscow. It was designed and built by Indian scientists and engineers of Indian Space Research Organization. Orders and instructions were transmitted to the experimental 360 kg satellite Aryabhata from the control station at Sriharikota. APPLE, which is an abbreviation of Ariane Passengers Payload Experiment, was India's first geostationary telecommunication satellite. It was shot into orbit on June 19, 1981 by European Space Agency's Ariane rocket from Kourou in French Guyana.

    Monitoring Cray Jobs
    There are a number of ways to monitor Cray batch jobs, each shows somewhat different information. Since the batch systems are structured differently on the PVP cluster and the T3E, monitoring on each has different methods. On the PVP cluster, the job normally remains in the NQE database in a "Pending" state until it is ready to run. Once NQS takes over, your job usually starts running immediately. On the T3E, the job is immediately passed to NQS, where it is held in a "Queued" state until ready to run. If you have already reached your job run limit on the T3E, your job will be held in NQE as "Pending." The best way (in our opinion) to see the status of your job is to check the following NERSC web pages: (Main disadvantage: these pages are not updated immediately and a new job will take a few minutes to show up.)

    Return Beam Vidicon (RBM)
    This is very similar to a television camera. In such a system, a fixed camera lens on a photosensitive semi-transparent sheet forms the ground image. This image is created on the surface as electrical change or potential.
    The TV cameras are the best example of high resolution, operated in space for resource survey was the RBV used in LAND SAT series. On LAND SAT I, II and III RBV cameras were used, each corresponding to a different wavelength band 0.475-0.585 m m (green), 0.580-0.690 m m (red) and 0.690-0.830 m m (near infrared). The Indian experimental remote sensing satellite, Bhaskara-I and II carried a two-band TV camera system, Multispectral imagery was produced in LAND SAT and Bhaskara by using separate camera tubes of each band and selecting the spectral band with appropriate filters. Optical-mechanical scanners This imaging system has the advantage that any set of desired spectral bands can be selected with appropriate filter and detector combinations. The mostly widely used sensor in this category is the MSS on LAND SAT series. MSS has four spectral bands, covering form 0.5-to 1.1

    A Memorial from Volume 4, #2 , of TopCom Rae-Michael Shortt, my good friend and Professor, Department of Mathematics, Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, USA died on July 11, 1999. Rae was a prolific researcher. It now seems that Rae was a mathematician in a hurry. In a short span of seventeen years of his research life, Rae has published more than 70 research papers, three research monographs (in Dissertationes Mathematicae) and edited four books. Academically, Rae was an open person. He has done lot of his work all by himself. But whenever there was an opportunity to discuss he did not hesitate. He had many coauthors: Lew Robertson, Clark Givens, Manfred Droste, R. Gobel, S. T. Rachev, Dan Dougherty, Steve Landry, Alan Hirshberg Emma d'Aniello and myself - to name some. Rae has also worked on a variety of topics: Strassen's Theorem, Marginal problems, Wasserstein metrics, Descriptive theory of sets, Borel spaces, cardinal algebras, Petri nets, group valued charges, and vector measures - to name some. To some of these themes, like for example, Strassen's Theorem, Rae would return again and again. Once Rae understood a problem he would think about it twenty four hours. Many a time Rae had called me at midnight to tell me that he has a solution to the problem that we were thinking about for the last few days or so. Rae would visit our house at odd hours (he had a standing invitation to our house) and spend the time discussing mathematics. I still recall Rae's ambling up the slope in snow to my house at about midnight to tell me that he had a particularly interesting observation on some problem on integer valued charges (We were still working on this problem at the time of his death). He was very kind to the students. He was active with the graduate students and would make special efforts to take the graduate students for dinners with the visitors to the department. Rae was also very religious. He would go to Church every Sunday. He was also an active participant in Church activities.

Posisinya dirangkap Raymond Toruan yang juga bertindak sebagai general manager Semula ada dua redaktur pelaksana: Vincent Lingga dan Endy M. Bayuni. Lingga juga pensiun. Bayuni dijadikan wakil pemimpin redaksi. Kenapa sampai lima? "Saya pikir, lebih untuk supervisi perbidangan. Pertama, karena ada website . Jadi ada satu managing editor yang khusus menangani website . Satu mengawasi bisnis. Satu mengawasi nasional, satu mengawasi produksi, dan satu untuk forming ," kata Lela.

    Mathematical curiosities and puzzles have fascinated people throughout the ages. These were often expressed in verse or as riddles. This one is supposed to have come from the tomb of an ancient Greek mathematician who lived in Alexandria. God granted him to be a boy for the sixth part of his life, and adding a twelfth part to this, He clothed his cheeks with down; He lit him the light of wedlock after a seventh part, and five years after his marriage he granted him a son.
