Director Choreographer János Mucsi studied folk dance beginning in early childhood. He became the soloist of the Budapest Bihari Ensemble in 1976 and began his professional carreer as a dancer in 1977. János became master of the Dance Pedagogical School and was trained in a masters course by the best teachers and choreographers in Hungary in 1980. János was the dance teacher of the Bolyai Children's Home from 1975 to 1991. He was rewarded by the ministry for his pedagogical work several times. János has been serving as the artistic leader and choreographer of the Bolyai Ensemble for more than twenty years. Due to his artistics efforts Bolyai is amongst the elite of the Hungarian folk dance ensembles, having achieved the "Golden I Category", the highest level in the hierarchy of the Hungarian national qualifying sytem. János taught and choreographed Hungarian folk dances abroad on several occasions (Holland, Poland, USA ... ). In 1994 he lead a cultural delegation to the folk music department of the Helsinki Sibelius Academy. He is regularly invited to be the member of the jury of different folk dance festivals, for the last time at Agrigento World Festival in 2000. János Mucsi has won several grand prizes at major Hungarian folk competitions for his choreographies, including those of the most reknowned festivals: The Szolnok National Folk Festival (Nativity Play, 1983, Bottle Dance, 1985, Danaides, 1989, Amazons, 1991, Carmen, 1993), The Zala Chamber Festival (Girls, 1984; Beggar's Song, 1986; Two Rumanian Dances, 1988; The Witch, 1992; Minuet, 1994; Stormy Corner, 1998). He has garnered top awards at a variety of international festivals, as well (Finland, Poland, Turkey, Germany, USA ...).

The William Marshall Bullitt Collection of Rare Mathematics and Astronomy
Louisville attorney William Marshall Bullitt began to collect rare mathematics books in 1936. Building upon a family history of book collecting and his own passion for mathematics, Bullitt set out to gather first editions works by the twenty-five greatest mathematicians of all time, a goal established during a parlor game instigated by his friend G.H. Hardy. Within a decade Bullitt had amassed over 300 volumes by sixty mathematicians and astronomers. Except for a loan of choice volumes to Harvard for a 1953 exhibition, he kept the collection in his law office where he could refer to his favorites and use them as examples when he asked young attorneys aspiring to employment with his firm, "How much mathematics have you had?"
Mr. Bullitt, shown here with his wife Nora in the library at Oxmoor, their home in Louisville, left all his books to her when he died in 1957. The following year, Mrs. Bullitt gave the rare mathematics and astronomy books to the University of Louisville. Mr. Bullitt's files of correspondence with mathematicians and rare book dealers joined the collection in 1980, thanks to the initiative of Uof L Mathematics professor Richard M. Davitt.
Although William Marshall Bullitt enjoyed success as an expert in
in 1951 for $500, an "outrageous price" in his estimation. Today the William Marshall Bullitt Collection of Rare Mathematics and Astronomy is priceless, not only for faculty and students at the University of Louisville, but for those to whom we offer the following list, a subset of a 370 volume collection.

Immediately after this he joined the army engineering corps in which he spent 11 years. He was the best swordsman and dancer in the Austrian Imperial Army. He neither smoked nor drank, not even coffee, and at the age of 23 he was reported to still retain the modesty of innocence . He was an accomplished linguist speaking nine foreign languages including Chinese and Tibetan. Between 1820 and 1823 he prepared a treatise on a complete system of non-Euclidean geometry . Before the work was published, however, Bolyai discovered that Gauss had anticipated much of his work. Although Gauss had never published his work in this area, probably because he did not feel confident to publish, this was a severe blow to Bolyai. However Bolyai's work was published in 1832 as an Appendix to an essay by his father. Gauss , on reading the Appendix, wrote to a friend saying I regard this young geometer Bolyai as a genius of the first order To Bolyai's father he wrote To praise it would amount to praising myself.
B olyai János 12 éves korában elvégezte a gimnázium 6-ik osztályát.

Contributions
to the History
of the Bolyai-Prize
Quite a few publications appeared lately dealing with the renewal of the former Bolyai-prize. These publications mention the initiative as an accomplished fact and describe the MTA's (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) aim regarding this matter. Academician Dénes Berényi puts it in a concise and clear way: "There are 2 contributing factors to the importance of the renewal of the prize. The MTA returns to a magnificent tradition, which honours worldwide scientific achievement, the scientific quality. The other - and not less important consequence - is that we are again looking out into the world. " Witnessing the noble intention of the MTA, which is on the verge of being realized I try to recall the beginnings around the turn of the century and I mention some pertinent data, which until now have not been available.
As it was first called "Bolyai-award " , its origins go back to the sixties of the last century. More precisely, it is about a session held in 1867, thus commented by the Bulletin of the Academy: "Jenõ Hunyady, corresponding member reports about a treatise published by the Academy of Bordeaux, entitled »La Science absolue de l'espace par J. Bolyai, précédée d'une notice sur la vie et les travaux de W. et de J. Bolyai, par F. Schmidt, architecte
