So, who was George Boole and why is he famous?
According to historians, George Boole
    a. (1930-1994) was a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, known for perfecting the play called “the Boolean Blitz”. b. (1740-1798) was an American revolutionary, signer of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, and known for the “Boolean Compromise” of 1783. c. (1815-1864) was an English mathematician known for his work with symbolic logic, now called “Boolean Logic”. d. ( 1624-1691) was an Anglo-Irish chemist known for experiments on the properties of gases, leading to the development of “Boole’s Law of Gas Exchange”. e. (1738-1790) was an English explorer, known for the discovery of Boolean Bay, on the southeastern coast of Australia. f. (1868-1935) was an American businessman, best known as the developer of the first canned condensed soup, “Chicken Boolean”.
And the answer is-
Yes, George Boole (1815-1864) was an English mathematician who helped establish a field of mathematical study called symbolic logic. This system, known as Boolean logic, is basic to the design of digital computer circuits. It also is the basis for computer database searches. Bacause many Internet search engines are based on Boolean logic, so it is important to understand how this system works.

George Boole An Investigation of the Laws of Thought.
Dover Edition (1958, NY). This 19th Century thinker, who developed ways of expressing logical processes using algebraic symbols, is considered the father of symbolic logic. His contributions underlie the development of switching theory essential for computing circuitry and thus the digital revolution in the 20th Century. The gating logic familiar to us in internet search engines bears his name as a "Boolean" search because it employs "Boolean" algebra.
Comenzó a estudiar álgebra y

Boole, George
(b. Nov. 2, 1815, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, Eng.d. Dec. 8, 1864, Ballintemple, County Cork, Ire.), English mathematician who helped establish modern symbolic logic and whose algebra of logic, now called Boolean algebra, is basic to the design of digital computer circuits. Boole was given his first lessons in mathematics by his father, a tradesman, who also taught him to make optical instruments. Aside from his father's help and a few years at local schools, however, Boole was self-taught in mathematics. When his father's business declined, George had to work to support the family. From the age of 16 he taught in village schools in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and he opened his own school in Lincoln when he was 20. During scant leisure time he read mathematics journals in the Mechanics Institute, founded about that time for science education. There he wrestled with the Principia of the 17th-century English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton, the of Pierre-Simon Laplace, and the

related subjects Achievement George Boole laid the groundwork for what we know today as Information Theory through the publication of his masterpiece, An Investigation of the laws of Thought, on which are founded the Mathematical Theories of Logic and Probabilities. In this work, published when the author was 39, Boole reduced logic to an extremely simple type of algebra, in which 'reasoning' is carried out through manipulating formulas simpler than those used in second-year traditional algebra. His theory of logic, which recognizes three basic operations - AND, OR and NOT - was to become germane to the development of telephone circuit switching and the design of electronic computers. George Boole invented a mathematical tool for future computer-buildersan "algebra of logic" that was used nearly a hundred years later to link the process of human reason to the operations of machines. The idea came to him in a flash of inspiration when he was walking across a meadow one day, at the age of seventeen, but it took him twenty years to teach himself enough mathematics to write The Laws of Thought. Although Boole's lifework was to translate his inspiration into an algebraic system, he continued to be so impressed with the suddenness and force of the revelation that hit him that day in the meadow that he also wrote extensively about the powers of the unconscious mind. After his death Boole's widow turned these ideas into a kind of human potential cult, a hundred years before the "me decade." -_Tools For Thought_ by Howard Rheingold

Mary Everest Boole
Written by Michelle Frost, Class of 1997 (Agnes Scott College)
Mary Everest Boole was born in England in 1832. It was not long thereafter that her father, Dr. Thomas Everest, a minister, moved the family to Poissy, France in order to cure his serious illness. At the time, Mary was five years old and her brother, George, was only two. Although growing up in Poissy gave Mary a chance to be exposed to a different culture and language, life was sometimes difficult and lonely. For example, it was hard for the Everest's, coming from the tradition of an English minister, to live in a town that was French Catholic. Dr. Everest believed strongly in homeopathy, a medical system whose main objective was to promote health and prevent disease. Some customs of homeopathy were extreme, such as baths in ice water to help resist disease. It was during Dr. Everest's curing process that Mary stayed very loyal to him, even participating in some of the homeopathic customs. It was Mary's uncle, George Everest, who made the family name famous. Colonel Sir George Everest was the Surveyor General of India. He was largely responsible for completion of the trigonometric survey of India along the meridan arc from the south of India extending north to Nepal. The completion of the Indian survey allowed the subsequent survey of Mt. Everest (at the time un-named) and calculation of its summit height. It was later renamed in honor of George Everest. Mary and her Uncle George were very close and George had hoped to adopt her. But Mary loved her parents too much to ever agree to the adoption.

1854 veröffentlichte er "An investigation into the Laws of Thought, on Which are founded the Mathematical Theories of Logic and Probabilities".

BOOLE, Georges (1815-1864)
Philosophe ou mathématicien?
Introduction
(E.T. Bell, p.464)
