MEMBERS PRESENT: Craig Berry, Paul Hons, Tim Christian, Chris Strauss, Maurice Leatherbury (Chair), Ginger Boone, Bill Buntain, Mike Hatch, Mike Wright, Jim Curry, Kelly Wood, Richard Harris, Cyndie Harris, Rich Anderson, Sue Ellen Richey (Recording Secretary) MEMBERS ABSENT: Eric DuChemin, Robert Pierce, Dallas Newell, Rich Anderson, Bruce Pollock, Abraham John, Curry Searle, Cengiz Capan There being no corrections to the minutes of the April 4th meeting, the minutes were approved as written. Bill Buntain reported that he has hired a Manager for the Campus-wide Networking Team, and will next work on filling Mike Hatch's vacant position for desk-top support. The new manager is Allen Bradley; he is from El Paso and has owned his own company for several years. Bill further reported that the Computing Center Fiscal Team has decided to use Lotus Notes as the workflow front end for the Accounts Payable Automated Purchasing system. Also, Bill said the Computing Center has changed the configuration of the internet connection. They found out that there was a bottleneck between the GSC-managed router in Dallas and the GTE router. GSC has a plan to set up another point of presence atUTD, in mid to late May. Since UNT can't wait that long, earlier this week, they ordered and deployed a T1 connection directly from GAB to Southwestern Bell Internet service, as a way to have more stable performance. Maurice asked Bill to speak to the issue of GroupWise 5.x. Bill stated that earlier this week he lined out the priorities for the server group explaining that they are the critical factor in the complete migration to GroupWise, because there are still five areas that need to have the current version of GroupWise implemented. They have a couple of test servers dedicated to GroupWise, plus a couple of servers set up to test Netware 4.1. When he has a schedule for that, he will inform this group.

Members present Rich Anderson, Ginger Boone, Bill Buntain Sandy Burke, Tim Christian, Wil Clark, Jim Curry, Mike Hatch, Paul Hons, Brenda Kirk, Maurice Leatherbury, Gary Matthews, Dallas Newell, Chris Strauss, Kelly Wood, Mike Wright, Roy Zumwalt Members absent: Troy Bacon, Craig Berry, Allen Bradley, Eric Duchemin, Cyndie Harris, Pam Hight, Abraham John, Kirk Kelly, Ramu Muthia Guests : Matt Graham, Richard Harris, Mike Maner, Aaron Thompson The minutes of the September 3, 1999 meeting were not yet prepared. Wil Clark, for the Student Computing subcommittee, reported that it would meet the following Wednesday and had nothing else to report. Maurice reported that he hadn't made any progress on Computing Support Quotient project. Matt Graham from the Library read the following statement about the recent browser plugin that the Library had announced would be required: Matt explained that the Library only knew of the plugin requirement three days before sending the message to the netman listserv. Wil Clark suggested that we needed a clearinghouse of plugins showing all requirements on campus. The question was asked what the various support units do when disk images are completed but a new software requirement comes in in the middle of a semester. In general, the answer was that re-ghosting the images was done only when it was an absolute requirement: mostly the re-ghosting is done between semesters. SAS had been a problem because the license expires in November, necessitating a new image in the middle of the Fall semester. Maurice said that he would re-form the Desktop Applications subcommittee to develop policies and procedures for campus-wide changes to software requirements.
