Born was a professor of physics at Gottingen University from 1909 until 1933. After the rise of Nazism in Germany, Born moved to Great Britain, where he was professor of natural philosophy at the University of Edinburgh. After his retirement in 1953, he returned to Germany. Max Born

for his work on the stability of elastic wires and tapes in 1906, and graduated at this university a year later on the basis of this work.
Born next went to Cambridge for a short time, to study under Larmor and J.J. Thomson
An appointment as professor (extraordinarius) to assist Max Planck at Berlin University came to Born in 1915 but he had to join the German Armed Forces. In a scientific office of the army he worked on the theory of sound ranging. He found time also to study the theory of crystals, and published his first book, Dynamik der Kristallgitter
At the conclusion of the First World War, in 1919, Born was appointed Professor at the University of Frankfurt-on-Main , where a laboratory was put at his disposal. His assistant was

Max Born attended school in Breslau, studying a wide range of subjects. He showed little promise at school and in particular he showed more interest in the humanities than in the sciences. Entering the University of Breslau in 1901 he took a wide range of science subjects, mainly to go along with his father's wishes (his father had died shortly before Max left school). Max's favourite subjects from the ones he studied were mathematics and astronomy and he thought of specialising in astronomy. He spent 1902 in Heidelberg, then 1903 at Zurich. In Zurich he attended his first course on advanced mathematics, a course by Hurwitz on elliptic functions Back in Breslau he talked to his fellow students Toeplitz and Hellinger who told him of the great teachers of mathematics, Klein Hilbert and Minkowski Hilbert and Minkowski He became Hilbert 's assistant in 1905, continuing to attend lectures by

Max Uhle (1856-1944)
Prehistoric Nasca embroidered child's
tunic fragment, Peru; 16-19107 Max Uhle is considered the father of archaeology in South America because of the unparalleled amount of time and research that he has devoted to the development of South American archaeology. The majority of his contributions to the study of Western South America are the amount of artifacts that he amassed during his three decades of digging in the area. Since then many of his finds and theories have been used to increase the knowledge of chronology, culture, and people of Western South America during the preceding two millenniums. After losing his funding from Germany he went to the University of Pennsylvania where he met Mrs. Phoebe Hearst, a wealthy woman who had a love for Uhle’s work. She helped to fund Uhle during the next decade and was one of the reasons that allowed him to continue excavating on a grand scale. He spent nearly two years in the United States until 1899 when he returned to Peru to continue his work. During the following years he collected approximately 9,200 artifacts spanning 3,000 years of Peruvian pre-history ( Mankato State University After 1905 he spent most of his time in South America helping to create museums and making lectures at universities. He also continued to excavate sights, but he did not continue at the old pace, which he had become known for during the preceding decades. Despite this he made many more discoveries of artifacts and sights in South America.
