Curriculum Vitae
Randall G. Hulet was born on April 27, 1956. After his education at Stanford University (B.S. in Physics, 1978), he received his degree in Physics in 1984 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the group of professor D. Kleppner. After that, he first spent another year in the same group and then went to Boulder, Colorado, where he was a National Research Council Fellow at the National Bureau of Standards in the group of professor D.J. Wineland. In 1987 he received a position at Rice University in Houston, Texas. Presently he occupies at Rice University the Fayez Sarofim chair in experimental physics. He received several awards, among which the I.I. Rabi Prize of the American Physical Society and the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigators Award. He is also a Fellow of the American Physical Society and a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The scientific work of Randall G. Hulet is always of the highest quality. He is internationally well known for his many important contributions to atomic physics. In particular, he played a leading role in the development of laser cooling and laser trapping of atoms. He is even more famous for his influential experiments on Bose-Einstein condensation. His most important achievements in this respect are the first realisation of Bose-Einstein condensation in an atomic gas with attractive interactions, the first observation of the formation and collapse of a condensate, and most recently the creation of a degenerate Bose-Fermi mixture.

Let me start by saying that I'm a 5'10" kid with a perpetual grin on my face. I was born and generally brought up in and around The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras India and now live in the lovely city of Glendale, California . I love computers, BMWs , rock n' roll, travelling, hiking, reading , rollerblading and sleeping (though not in that order)! I'm primarily right handed, though I prefer to use my left hand for common tasks such as handling a mouse or dribbling a basketball. I guess that I must be sort of ambidextrous then. My blood group is AB+ which makes me an extremely rare blood type.

Luigi Bianchi získal støední vzdìlání na škole v Parmì, pak vysokoškolské vzdìlání na Scuola Normale Superiore a univerzitní vzdìlání získal v Pise. Studoval u Bettiho a Diniho (narozen: 14.11. 1845 v Pise, Itálie, zemøel: 28. øíjna 1918 v Pise) a vysokoškolské studium ukonèil s výborným prospìchem v roce 1877. Bianchi napsal "Pøednášky o diferenciální geometrii" (1894), "Pøednášky o teorii grup substitucí" (1900), "Pøednášky o teorii spojitých grup" (1918), "Pøednášky o teorii funkcí komplexní promìnné" (1901) a "Pøednášky o teorii algebraických èísel" (1923).

    Science in India
    Origin and Development
India has a long and proud scientific tradition. Nehru, in his Discovery of India hindsah , meaning "from Hind (India)"), their Indian origins are a source of national pride. Technological discoveries have been made relating to pharmacology, brain surgery, medicine, artificial colors and glazes, metallurgy, recrystalization, chemistry, the decimal system, geometry, astronomy, and language and linguistics (systematic linguistic analysis having originated in India with Panini's fourth-century B.C. Sanskrit grammar, the Ashtadhyayi ). These discoveries have led to practical applications in brick and pottery making, metal casting, distillation, surveying, town planning, hydraulics, the development of a lunar calendar, and the means of recording these discoveries as early as the era of Harappan culture. Written information on scientific developments from the Harrapan period to the eleventh century A.D. (when the first permanent Muslim settlements were established in India) is found in Sanskrit, Pali, Arabic, Persian, Tamil, Malayalam, and other classical languages that were intimately connected to Indian religious and philosophical traditions. Archaeological evidence and written accounts from other cultures with which India has had contact have also been used to corroborate the evidence of Indian scientific and technological developments. The technology of textile production, hydraulic engineering, water-powered devices, medicine, and other innovations, as well as mathematics and other theoretical sciences, continued to develop and be influenced by techniques brought in from the Muslim world by the Mughals after the fifteenth century.

The Patriot and the Hooligan Chief
There was a great patriot who conquered everyone's heart in India, especially the Bengalis. He was known as the leader of great leaders. When he was in college he was a brilliant student. He had always had a fondness for spiritual people. He helped the poor, the sick and the needy whenever he could. Once when he was a young man, cholera broke out in Calcutta and the rich people left the city. When the epidemic broke out, there was no medical treatment for the poor, so he went to the poorest section of town and treated the sick. There were many hooligans in that part of town. They threatened him and said, "Don't come here and bother us. We don't want you. You're well educated and come from a rich family, while we are poor and ignorant. Leave us alone." Bravely, he replied, "Do whatever you want. If you want to kill me, kill me. I've come into the world to help the poor and sick. I'll continue to bring money and food and try to help as much as I can." One day the only son of the hooligan leader was stricken with cholera. So the young man went to his house and cared for the son, feeding him and giving him medical treatment. The hooligan leader was deeply moved. "I threatened you and warned you not to come here, and still you come to help my own son. You're a brave man."
