    Analysis
By George Rodecker Special to SportsLine June 2000: Brown arrived in Chicago with a reputation for underachieving and lethargic play. Until he sustained a minor injury, his play was a complete turnaround from this past season's reviews. He ran, he hustled, he crashed the boards and seemed genuinely interested in what was around him. He may have propelled himself back into the first-round hunt. April 2000: P R O J E C T - - need we say more. A 7-foot player with more areas needing help than already developed, Brown after a dominating freshman season at Mesa CC in Arizona delivered ordinary results this season and in doing so exposed portions of his game that underwhelmed pro scouts all season long. The range on his jumper is very limited, his inability to run the floor shows a lack of conditioning and his defensive skills have deteriorated all season long. Brown, originally headed for St. John’s but academically ill prepared, is once again at a crossroads. He likely will not stay eligible at any NCAA institution, but wants to play. Similar to Joel Przybilla, seven footers always get drafted, and similar to Przybilla, Brown will struggle mightily in the NBA, and may very well fail. Not necessarily a first-round pick, Brown must hope to impress in individual workouts or get his passport in order.

Originally from Atlanta,Georgia, Ernest Brown is a retired Air Force fighter pilot. He served in Vietnam in the 1960s, then served for 15 years in the Kansas Air National Guard, before finishing his career on active duty at the Pentagon from 1987 to 1993. He met his wife, Jessica, when he was stationed in Wichita in 1970. They were married and he's been there ever since. They have eight children and seven grandchildren. When he heard about Jose Silva's UltraMind ESP System, he immediately obtained the Home Study Course, and began to use it with much success. He began teaching his children how to use and benefit from the techniques, and after a couple of months, he knew he wanted to teach the course. During Instructor Training in Laredo, he quickly demonstrated his outstanding intuitive ability. "This program can help people in every area of life," he said. "I am so pleased to be able to bring it to people, to help them make the rest of their lives, the best of their lives." Ernie's lifelong interest has been electronics beginning with ham radio when he was taught about it in high school. He graduated from Morehouse College with a degree in Mathematics. When he joined the Air Force in 1964, his early training involved aircraft computer systems. In fact, he was involved with "personal computers" even before there actually was such a thing!

    Ernest J. Brown, 95
January 16, 2002 9 a.m. Langdell Professor of Law, Emeritus, Ernest Joseph Brown died on December 31 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 95. "Ernest Brown was one of the true giants of legal education at the Harvard Law School," said Dean Robert C. Clark. "He served the School long and well, and was both a living legend and a dear friend. We mourn his passing." A 1931 graduate of Harvard Law School, Brown returned to the school in 1946 as a visiting professor, then in 1947 as a full professor. He served as professor emeritus since his retirement from teaching in 1971. After leaving HLS, Brown worked for Department of Justice’s Tax Division. In 1981 he was presented the Justice Department Distinguished Service Award and in 1991, President George H.W. Bush honored Brown with the Distinguished Presidential Rank Award. He retired from the Justice Department in January, 2001. The following are excerpts from the 1971 Harvard Law School Yearbook dedication to Ernest J. Brown: In The Compleat Bok , the Harvard Bulletin reports that the new President of Harvard recalls his student days at Harvard Law School, as “difficult, arduous, and often unpleasant, but by all odds the most valuable part of my education.” Among law student Bok’s teachers, three stand out in his recollection for their special and enduring contribution to his growth. One was Ernest J. Brown, whom Derek Bok recalls as “simply a superb teacher, with a habit of mind and a set of intellectual values that meant a great deal to me.”
