Ceva's Theorem by Jim Wilson Given any triangle ABC with a point M in the interior. Segments through M from each vertex to the opposite sides of the triangle are Cevians and Ceva's theorem says that the product of the ratios of the pairs of segments formed on each side of the triangle by the intersection point is equal to 1, where the ratios are taken in same orientation on each side. Essay 1: A Look at Ceva's Theorem by Anita Hoskins and Crystal Martin Ceva's Theorem was discovered by and named for Giovanni Ceva Ceva's Theorem states: Given any triangle ABC, the segments from A, B, and C to the opposite sides of the triangle are concurrent precisely when the product of the ratios of the pairs of segments formed on each side of the triangle is equal to 1. The theorem is easier to understand if you look at the following picture (Figure 1). AB, BC, and CA are concurrent if AF/FB*BD/DC*CE/EA=1. The converse is also true. I pionieri della Sezione AVIS di Ceva Fotografia Cominciarono in 12. E' nel lontano inverno del 1955 che sorse l'idea di una Sezione cebana di donatori di sangue. I donatori avevano già raggiunto una certa diffusione e popolarità, ma in Ceva rappresentava ancora qualcosa di misterioso, se non addirittura di pericoloso, secondo l'opinione pubblica corrente. Questa difficoltà fu presto superata dall'entusiasmo dei pochi pionieri, che nell'esiguo numero di 12 si riunirono attorno al dott. Comino per realizzare la nascita della sezione autonoma donatori di sangue Ceva. L'inaugurazione avvenne il 12 febbraio 1955, con la partecipazione di tutte le Autorità. Per coloro che formarono il primo nucleo di donatori volontari del sangue a Ceva, va la nostra gratitudine per la loro opera, silenziosa e disinteressata. Ricordiamo anche gli scomparsi perché dopo aver seminato la buona semente della loro bontà e della loro fede, ci hanno lasciata una eredità preziosa che noi dobbiamo custodire gelosamente e sviluppare. Un caro ricordo al primo presidente del Comitato Sarre Aldo per la sua opera nel formare il primo gruppo donatori al servizio del prossimo.

The Italian Tradition This may look odd. Italian economists don't usually figure very prominently in histories of economic thought. Most people would probably only be able to name the giants Vilfredo Pareto and Piero Sraffa (both of whom were emigrants, incidentally). But Italy has had a very old and distinctive heritage in economics that is impossible to ignore. This distinctiveness emerged in the 18th Century, when Neapolitan economist, Ferdinando Galiani (1751) "broke off" from the main streams of Enlightenment economic thinking. He joined in the general reaction against Mercantilist thought, but he did not follow the path of the French Physiocratic and Scottish schools. Instead, Galiani initiated the two avenues which formed the "Italian tradition" in economics: the serious analysis of government as an economic entity and a utility-based theory of natural value. For Galiani, the economy must be analyzed more juridically than pseudo-scientifically. Government, he argued, is an important entity in any economy. It can, via its laws and fiscal policies, influence the economy and society for good and evil.
