Charles Ehresmann Ehresmann's doctorate was awarded by Paris in 1934. In his doctoral dissertation, and during the time from 1934 to 1939 when he was carrying out research in the Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique, he studied topological properties of differential manifolds . In particular he described [1]:- ... the homology of classical types of homogeneous manifolds, such as Grassmannians, flag manifolds, Stiefel manifolds, and classical groups. He became a lecturer in the University of Strasbourg in 1939 but shortly after this he was back in the middle of the France/Germany conflict of his youth but this time on a quite different scale as the Germans invaded Alsace in 1940. During the German occupation of World War II, the University of Strasbourg's faculties were moved to Clermont Ferrand University in central France, then back to Strasbourg in 1945. Ehresmann followed the moves of the university then, in 1955, a chair of topology was specially created for him in the University of Paris. He held this chair until he retired in 1975. Although he was 70 years old when he retired, Ehresmann did not give up lecturing for at this time he moved to Amiens, where his second wife was a professor of mathematics, and he taught there.

Collected Works in Mathematics and Statistics
This is a list of Mathematics and Statistics collected works that can be found at Dalhousie University and at other Halifax universities. The vast majority of these works are located in the Killam Library on the Dalhousie campus. A guide to other locations is given at the end of this list. If a title is owned by both Dalhousie and another university, only the Dalhousie site is listed. For all locations, and for full bibliographic details, see the NOVANET library catalogue This list was compiled, and the collection is being enlarged, with the invaluable help of the Bibliography of Collected Works maintained by the Cornell University Mathematics Library. The thumbnail sketches of mathematicians were taken from the MacTutor History of Mathematics Archive at the University of St. Andrews. For correction, comments, or questions, write to Karl Dilcher ( dilcher@mscs.dal.ca You can scroll through this list, or jump to the beginning of the letter:

Title: Creation and 40 years evolution of a Journal Dates: 1957-2000 Creation and 40 years evolution of a journal: In the early fifties, Charles Ehresmann had organized a Topology Seminar in Strasbourg, the proceedings of which were published in 3 volumes, under the title: Colloque de Topologie de Strasbourg ". Hence Charles' 1957-58 Seminar was published under the title: ", Vol. I. rd cycle" thesis (on infinite-dimensional polyhedrons), in this volume, and not only the part I had exposed in his seminar. Thus, to have more freedom, we thought of creating an independent publication, not only devoted to the proceedings of the Seminar. The fortuitous meeting of an unused 'Varityper' machine allowed the realization of this project. Until 1966, volumes appeared without strict periodicity (about one volume per annum) and the initial title changed little by little to become in 1966: In 1967 the " Cahiers " were converted into a formal quarterly journal (with no more links with the Seminar), and their current presentation was adopted. From 1967 to 1972, they were published by the Editions Dunod. But a merger of Dunod in 1972 raised problems, and we decided to publish them ourselves, in Paris until 1975, then in Amiens. In Paris, most of the composition of the texts was carried out by secretaries made available for this journal by the "Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique". But when we moved to Amiens at the end of 1975, we had to give up this material aid, whose maintenance was subordinated to conditions unacceptable for us.
