Review: Sometimes it pays to read the manual...
There are three books which we consider the "fountainheads" of the nanocorp and small business revolutionary perspective; this one, Mirror Worlds and Grow or Die Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth (OMSE) is a work of synthesis for Fuller. His editorial goal was to provide an accessible, digestible chunk of his extraordinary World for us, the ordinary reader, to savor. And, oh! What an exciting tale he tells... and so timely for the birth of the New Millennium. How we wish he and Leonardo could be here for it... you know their websites would be Way Cool Places. Fuller paints a Human history-long framework for how physical wealth, (the wealth of exclusive resource ownership), is eclipsed by information wealth (a valuation on know-how) when it comes to survival of our species on the fragile, closed system he called "Spaceship Earth."

SPECIAL TO THE POST-INTELLIGENCER The one-man show "R. Buckminster Fuller: The History (and Mystery) of the Universe" is a roller coaster for the brain. THEATER REVIEW R. BUCKMINSTER FULLER: THE HISTORY (AND MYSTERY) OF THE UNIVERSE CREATORS: Written and directed by D.W. Jacobs, performed by Ron Campbell, produced by Foghouse.com
WHERE: Intiman Theatre
WHEN: Through July 8
TICKETS: $30-$42; 25 and under $10; discounts for groups of 10 or more; 206-269-1900, www.intiman.org It starts with a slow, anticipatory chug-chug as Fuller, played by Ron Campbell, wanders into the theater and stares kindly and confusedly at the audience, as if he has gotten off at the wrong bus stop and doesn't know quite where he is standing. He punctuates that lengthy silence by dropping several pennies and watching them roll into the front row. "They always do that!" he shouts out suddenly, launching into a discussion about gravity, which veers quickly and unexpectedly to a recollection of the 4-year-old "Bucky's" first pair of glasses.

R.Buckminster (Bucky) Fuller Let's take a few moments to consider R.Buckminster Fuller. Perhaps the greatest visionary of our times. We'll start with a science fiction concept: Flying Cities. Like Prince Voltan's Sky City in the old Flash Gordon serials. Sheer flights of fancy. There's just one little problem here. Fuller calculated that a Geodesic on the order of 1/4 mile or larger heated to 1/2 degree above ambient would become boyant. Securely attach the floor, and you have a floating city. Imagination complete you say, somebody built one. Off the coast of Australia, floating over the ocean, over the Great Barrier Reef, somebody built a luxury hotel that floats because it's a big warm geodesic dome. When the original builders went bankrupt, the Japaneese bought it. Many of Fuller's ideas met with similar fate. 20 to 50 or more ago, he built things that today are still "sci-fi". Cars that have performance to beat Californa's Low Emission Vehicle standards, and got milage to remove almost all our dependence on forigen oil. There exists news-reel footage of this car in operation. It really makes you wonder what makes the world tick. Go to Top

May 21, 2002 9:40 AM "What can a little man effect towards such realizations in the face of the formidable power of great corporations, great states, and all their know-how, guns, monies, armies, tools and information?" "The individual can take initiatives without anybody's permission." R. Buckminster Fuller, or "Bucky" as he was affectionately known, is one of the twentieth century's eclectic geniuses. His "motto" – "how Nature builds" so succinctly expresses his desire to find a homogeny between mathematics, physics, and chemistry. "In architecture, form is a noun; in industry, form is a verb".
