Title: It's a Beautiful Life, Rachel Goldstein
    Author: Hilde S. Nilsen
    Written: August ' 99 - ?
Category: A bit of everything, but mostly drama, I guess
Not mine, never were, never will be, not fair and so on
Author's notes: I originally started this story in August last year, as a response to the challenge "write how Rachel leaves the show". But I never got around to finish it, and after a while I forgot about the whole story. But now, with the awards coming up and everything, I think the time has come for this fic to be completed. You can consider it an early Christmas gift from me to all of you wonderful authors out there, and to all the Rats - what would we ever do without you?
Summary: Three dead bodies in two days, and Rachel's life is suddenly turned upside down.
Dedicated to Rachael W. and Camilla, for reasons known only to me.

"G'day, Rachel!" her partner, Senior Detective Frank Holloway grinned when she entered their office. Frank in a good mood at this time of day. Something was definitely wrong. Rachel sighed and sat down behind her desk. She tried to shake off the odd feeling, but it didn't work. Funny. She never used to have premonitions. So why now?

A visiting Somali Transitional Government official yesterday called for the deployment of international peace-keeping forces to disarm warlords, warring groups and factions to help peace return to the 'Horn of Africa'. Yousuf Hassan Ibrahim, Foreign Minister in the Transitional National Government of Somalia, said the key and pressing issue for peace in the country is to disarm all the warring factions and groups, "which can only be achieved with strong involvement and support of international peace-keeping forces." The minister, who is on a tour of the region to brief Arab leaders about the situation in Somalia, said: "We need an urgent intervention from the international community to stop the bloodshed and disarm warring factions in order to help peace return to Somalia." Of course, if the warlords refuse to peacefully disarm and the peacekeepers engage in military tactics

eBioinformatics is the first supplier of bioinformatics analysis to offer
subscription via e-commerce. Stressing low cost and ease-of-use, eBioinformatics will provide bioinformatics resources over the Internet to researchers struggling to keep up with the latest tools of analysis and ever-expanding databases of new gene and protein sequences discovered in their own laboratories, and in similar facilities around the world. Until now, the company's resources were available only to researchers in Australia through ANGIS (Australian National Genomic Information Service).
"eBioinformatics is about removing the barriers of entry to premium-level genomic and proteomic analysis," said Goldstein. "eBioinformatics is the first company to take advantage of the Internet as a delivery system to reach a large customer base that has not been effectively serviced by traditional bioinformatics tools and content companies." Goldstein, who was previously vice president of sales for Incyte Pharmaceuticals, added that "while researchers in universities, biotech labs, and small to mid-sized pharmaceutical companies have impressive data-generating capabilities, their ultimate R&D contributions have been constrained by limited access to the exploding genomic and proteomic databases, tools, and computing resources that are now essential to accomplishing thorough biological studies."

In Australia most students attend a university in their own city and live at home with their families. Consequently Australian universities have limited accommodation for students. The majority of students live away from home and stay in private accommodation in the suburbs around the university. This accommodation is usually shared with other students and varies considerably in style, standard and cost. Accommodation near the main UNSW campus is relatively expensive by Sydney standards and difficult to find at short notice, particularly in January and February. It is best to arrive at least 3-4 weeks before classes start so you can look for accommodation, settle in and attend the orientation sessions.
