    Introduction
The Monte Carlo method provides approximate solutions to a variety of mathematical problems by performing statistical sampling experiments on a computer. The method applies to problems with no probabilistic content as well as to those with inherent probabilistic structure. Among all numerical methods that rely on N-point evaluations in M-dimensional space to produce an approximate solution, the Monte Carlo method has absolute error of estimate that decreases as N superscript -1/2 whereas, in the absence of exploitable special structure all others have errors that decrease as N superscript -1/M at best.
    History of Monte Carlo method
The method is called after the city in the Monaco principality, because of a roulette, a simple random number generator. The name and the systematic development of Monte Carlo methods dates from about 1944.

    Gosset, William Sealey (1876-1937)
William Gosset nasceu no dia 13 de junho de 1876 em Canterbury Inglaterra. Ele cursou a New College, Oxford University, onde estudou química e matemática.

William S. Gosset Brewing Better Beer, Brewing New Statistics What would cause the head brewer of the famous Guinness brewery in Dublin. Ireland, not only to use statistics but to invent new statistical methods? The search for better beer, of course. William S. Gosset (1876-1937), fresh from Oxford University, joined Guinness as a brewer in 1899. He soon became involved in experiments and in statistics to understand the data from these experiments. What are the best varieties of barley and hops for brewing? How should they be grown, dried, and stored? The results of the field experiments, as you can guess, varied. Statistical inference can uncover the pattern behind the variation. The statistical methods available at the turn of the century ended with a version of the z test for means-even confidence intervals were not yet available. Gosset faced the problem we noted in using the z test to introduce the reasoning of statistical tests: he didn’t know the population standard deviation s What is more, field experiments give only small numbers of observations. Just replacing s by s in the z statistic and calling the result roughly normal wasn’t accurate enough.

    Tales of Statisticians
    William S Gosset
Gosset earned a degree in chemistry at Oxford, and joined the Guinness brewery firm in 1899. His work for Guinness led him investigate the statistical validity of results obtained from small samples (previous statistical theory had concentrated instead on large samples). He took a leave of absence to spend 1906/1907 studying under Karl Pearson at University College, London. His publications in Pearson's journal Biometrika were signed "Student," in deference to Guinness company policy forbidding publication by employees. His most important result is known as the "Student's t" test or distribution, published in 1908. In these pages, we will drop the subterfuge and restore the discoverer's name to the discovery: For us, the distribution is "Gosset's t." His work founded the concept of quality control, which Neyman and others were later to develop more fully. In studying the distribution of yeast cells, he independently discovered the Poisson Distribution and demonstrated its utility in biological applications.
Gosset remained in contact with the Pearson group for the rest of his life. He was on the scene in the 1930's when Jerzy Neyman and Karl's son Egon Pearson were collaborating in London on their new theory of hypothesis testing, a collaboration which had begun in 1928 in Paris, when Pearson had interested Neyman in the problem of providing a proper mathematical basis for Gosset's t function. (That particular problem would be solved only later, by

t -Time at the Brewery by Carl Wilkerson It is not uncommon for superior mathematicians to gain employment in industry and be charged with evaluation of their company's operations. On occasion, a theoretical advance will come about as a result of problems faced by such a mathematician. William Sealy Gosset graduated Oxford in 1899, was hired by Arthur Guinness, Son, and Company Limited, and went to work for the company at the St. James's Gate Brewery in Dublin, Ireland. Pearson During the pursuit of quality control activities, Gosset became concerned with the issue of small sample size. Statistics was still in its infancy, and the precise nature of the relationship between population standard deviation and sample standard deviation was not known. Gosset, at the age of 32 and in the second paper he ever published, developed a distribution that reflected the difference between sample and population parameters for populations known to be normal. Gosset was required by brewery regulations not to disclose his real name on published work. Pearson He selected the pseudonym "Student," and the distribution has been known as "the Student-t curve" or "Student's t curve" ever since.
