27. Heath Family History Chapter 6: Mary Alice & Thomas Henry Heath
This bond was further strengthened by William Powell heath, thomas Henry’s secondson, who adopted the surname ‘Powell heath’ by deed poll in 1946 14 .

Heathfolk Revisited
Chapter 6
The Double Connection to the Powell Family
The Powells played an important part in the history of the Heaths, and it is therefore not unreasonable to devote a short chapter to the connections between the two families.
Thomas Powell senior was a farmer (‘one of the Yeoman stock’, according to his eldest son’s obituary in the Golden Valley of Herefordshire; this obituary also tells us that he was a man of natural gifts, and exercised them as a Methodist local preacher for a period of over 50 years. Thomas senior was married to Elizabeth Watkins and their eldest son Thomas junior was born at St Margaret’s, Hereford, in 1841. He was followed by five more sons and two daughters Again quoting from his obituary, we read that in early life [Thomas junior] identified himself with the church of his father, and when 20 years of age entered the ministry of the Primitive Methodist connection, and for seven years occupied a position of great usefulness as a minister of that denomination.
Mary Alice Heath’s Marriage
From 1866 to 1868, Thomas was stationed in the Nantwich circuit. Here he met Mary Alice Heath, and they were married at the Wedgwood chapel in Heath Street, Crewe on 13 July 1868, Thomas giving his address as Market Street, Monks Coppenhall, which was presumably where his manse was situated. The bridegroom was 27 and Mary Alice was 19; she gave her address as ‘West View’, where she lived with her father and step-mother. Her brother Thomas Henry was one of the witnesses.

Heathfolk Revisited
Appendix: The Will
Thomas Heath ‘of Warrington in the County of Lancaster, Gentleman’, spelt out his intentions very clearly in his will which was dated 26 November 1795. He started by directing his executors to pay all his ‘just Debts, Funeral Expences (sic) and the Charge of Probate’, and concluded by insisting that these executors ‘shall have all just and reasonable Allowances for their troubles and Expences in the Execution’ of the will. His executors were named as Jonathan Mercer, George Birchall and William Heath He then made four minor bequests: £30 to his ‘Kinsman’ (nephew) William Heath; £25 ‘and my old Clock’ to his nephew Joseph Heath; £30 to his nephew Richard Heath; and £30 to his servant Mary Horrocks, provided she was still in his service at the time of his death. Thomas’s wife Martha died in 1785, so no mention of her is made in the will. All but one of their children were also dead. Thomas was therefore mainly concerned for his only remaining son Thomas and the family of his younger brother William . William was to be given an annuity of £20, payable from the Coppenhall estate.

As a kid, Thomas Heath, the featured artist in Scott Robinson's autobiographical play, " Vision Warrior ", wasn't even thinking about art; He wanted to become an athlete. However, his life took a different path. Now he is a painter using canvas as well things like ironing boards, shirts and jackets as his medium. He started painting when a friend saw a doodle of his and told him that if he can doodle, he can paint. His friend took him to an art store, brought him paint and canvas and told him to paint. He has been painting ever since. Although he has been painting for only 10 years, if you saw one of his pieces you would think he had some type of formal training. The truth is that he has not had an art class a day in his life. He explained that although he has made a number of mistakes in his paintings, many have turned into masterpieces. Some of his artwork has appeared in several books. During the summer he takes time off his craft to focus on other goals.

Thomas Morton
New English Canaan (1637), best known for its satire of Puritans in general and the Separatists in particular.
Throughout New English Canaan, Thomas Morton more often resorts to brief essays and loosely related anecdotes rather than to continuous historical narration. The lack of narrative continuity can be attributed in large part to the generically hybrid status of the text. Although it is most often referred to by critics as a promotional tract, Morton’s New English Canaan also read at times like a natural history, an ethnography, and a political pamphlet. In the first two sections of his three-part text, Morton follows the format adhered to by many other writers of promotional literature: he offers readers information about New England’s native inhabitants and its natural resources. Echoing opinions voiced by early English explorers and colonial commentators like Thomas Harriot and Richard Hakluyt, Morton argues that New England is a valuable region inhabited by friendly natives, a region that well deserves English colonization. In the third part of New English Canaan
