Scholars have derived many significant points from this hadith: firstly, when a child is born it is Sunnah to perform Tahneek. This is placing a sweet medicine (such as a date or honey) in a newly born infants mouth soon after its birth to clear the maconium. Secondly, a pious man or woman who is respected, such as an Imam or teacher should carry out the practice. Thirdly, it is Sunnah to obtain relics or artifacts from pious people for blessing. Fourthly, it is Sunnah to wear an extra cloth around the body. Fifthly, the blessed Prophet (saw) taught humility. For a person of great status it is not inferior or degrading to perform your own chores, rather it is Sunnah. Sixthly, it is Sunnah to keep the name of 'Abdullah. Seventhly, the naming of a child should be left to a scholar and pious person, as he will select a meaningful and appropriate name. And lastly, to name the child on the day of its birth is Sunnah.
This was a brief summary of a few of the topics covered by the hadith. We would like to take the opportunity to elaborate on some points regarding the name of a child and the Sunnah concerning it.

Clothing, Decorations, General Behavior, Greetings, Magic, Poetry, Visions, Dreams The twenty-second book pertains to clothing and decorations ( KitAb al-LibAs wa’l-ZInah ). The book begins with ahAdIs which forbid the use of gold and silver vessels (5126-5140). “He who drinks in the vessel of silver in fact drinks down in his belly the fire of Hell” (5126).
SILK Silk is also forbidden. “Do not wear silk, for one who wears it in the world will not wear it in the Hereafter” (5150). It is also not permissible for a man to wear clothes of yellow color (5173-5178), for “these are the clothes usually worn by the non-believers” (5173). A man was wearing clothes dyed in saffron; finding that the Prophet disapproved of them, he promised to wash them. But Muhammad said: “Burn them” (5175). The mantles of Yemen, on the other hand, were considered excellent (5179-5180). These were striped and made of coarse cloth. It is permissible to use carpets (5188-5189).
SANDALS Sandals are recommended. JAbir reports that “during an expedition in which we all participated,” the Prophet said: “Make a general practice of wearing sandals, for a man is riding as it were when he wears sandals” (5230).
HAIR Not only clothes, but the hair too should not be dyed in saffron (5241).

Buraira said, "I cannot accuse her of any defect except that she is still a young girl who sleeps, neglecting her family's dough which the domestic goats come to eat (i.e. she was too simpleminded to deceive her husband)." Allah's Apostle said, "Who can help me to take revenge over the man who has harmed me by defaming the reputation of my family? By Allah, I have not known about my family-anything except good, and they mentioned (i.e. accused) a man about whom I did not know anything except good." Volume 3, Book 48, Number 806:

XXXI. Guests and Spending 316. A man serving his guest himself 746. Abu Usayd as-Sa'idi invited the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, to his wedding. His wife, who was the bride, served them that day. She said, "Do you know what I served the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? I served him some dates which had been infused in a pot overnight." 317. Someone who brings his guest food and then stands up to pray 747. Nu'aym ibn Qa'nab said, "I went to Abu Dharr and did not find him at home. I asked his wife, 'Where is Abu Dharr?' 'Fetching some things for the house. He will be back presently.' I sat down to wait for him and he came with two camels. One of them was lined up behind the other and each of the camels had a waterskin on its neck. Abu Dharr took them off. Then he came and I said, 'Abu Dharr! There was no man who I desired to meet more than you and there was none that I hated to meet more than you!' He said, 'Your father belongs to Allah! How can these two be joined together?' I replied, 'In the Jahiliyya, a buried a daughter alive and I feared that I would meet you and you would say, "There is no way for you to repent. There is no way out." On the other hand, I used to hope that you would say, 'There is a way for you to repent. There is a way out."' "Abu Dharr asked, 'Was it during the time of the Jahiliyya that you did it?' 'Yes,' I replied. He said, 'Allah has pardoned what was already done.' Then he told his wife, 'Bring us some food.' She refused. Then he ordered again and she refused. This continued until their voices were raised in argument. Abu Dharr said, 'All right then! They (women) do not consider what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said!' 'What did the Messenger of Allah say about women?' I asked. He replied, 'Woman is a crooked rib. If you try to straighten her out, you will break her. If you coax her gently, there will be love and a sufficient means (of obtaining what you want).' She went and brought a stew, behaving like a dove.

It is related from 'Urwa, Ibn al-Musayyab, 'Alqama ibn Waqqas and 'Ubaydullah about the story of 'A'isha - and some of their report confirms other parts - when the people of the lie spoke against her, and, when the revelation was delayed, the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, summoned 'Ali and Usama to consult them about divorcing his wife. Usama said, "Keep your wife. We know only good about her." Barira said, "I have not seen her do anything for which I could criticise her beyond the fact that she is a young girl who sleeps, neglecting her family's leaven so that the sheep comes and eats it." The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Who will help us against a man whose injury in the people of my house has reached me? By Allah, I only know good of my wife. They mentioned a man about whom I only know good." III: The testimony of the eavesdropper

Subhanallah!!!

The Holy Bible is a Superior Revelation to the Quran
Here are just few of the areas where the Holy Bible is superior to the Quran:
Women
The biblical view of women is that despite the fact that in regards to position they remain subject to man within the family and church structure, they are of equal value to God. This necessitates the fair and respectful treatment on the part of husbands in relation to their spouses, which entails the point of laying down their lives for them:
“Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband . The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife .” 1 Corinthians 7:1-4
“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is the head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything . Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish

Every work that I did was not according to the desire of my master, but he never said to me: Fie, nor did he say to me: Why did you do this? or Why did you not do this? Book 41, Number 4757: Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) used to sit with us in meetings and talk to us. When he stood up we also used to stand up and see him entering the house of one of his wives. One day he talked to us and we stood up as he stood up and we saw that an Arabi (a nomadic Arab) caught hold of him and gave his cloak a violent tug making his neck red. AbuHurayrah said: The cloak was coarse. He turned to him and the Arabi said to him: Load these two camels of mine, for you do not give me anything from your property or from your father's property. The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said to him: No, I ask Allah's forgiveness; no, I ask Allah's forgiveness; no, I ask Allah's forgiveness. I shall not give you the camel-load until you make amends for the way in which you tugged at me. Each time the Arabi said to him: I swear by Allah, I shall not do so.

Conquest of Egypt
We have heretofore noticed that the Fatimid attempt to conquer Egypt began early in their reign. Al-Muizz, however, with a comprehensive and more cautious policy in the Mediterranean and the Muslim world, was able to succeed where his predecessors failed. Having completely subjected the Maghrib to his control, he was able to rally the Katama tribe under the capable leadership of Jawhar for impending expedition against Egypt. Egypt was under the rule of the Ikhshids from 323/935 to 358/969 before the advent of the Fatimids. It was a Turkish dynasty under the Abbasid suzerainty. Muhammad Ikhshid, the founder of the rule, died in 355/966 and his two minor sons, Abu Kassim and Ali ruled after him in succession as the nominal rulers, and the virtual authority was held by an Abyssinian, called Abul Misk Kafur (camphor, the father of musk). He was an able governor, and died in 357/968 after ruling for 22 years. Kafur's death left Egypt in a state of confusion. It was a time of acute disorders and anarchy. Famine broke out as a result of scarcity of water in Nile and it was also followed by plague. The soldiers had their pay diminished, their gratuities were in arrear. The whole administration failed to relieve the people from distress due to lack of capable governor. Thus, al-Muizz made his farewell speech to Jawhar's troops on the eve of their departure from the Maghrib in which he greatly emphasised the political and religious policy to be followed in the new dominion. He admonished his troops that "justice was the basis of the state, not oppression." If this principal were to be observed by all, he thought, the Katama warriors would eventually conquer the East as easily as they had conquered the West.

Mr. Meyer's Extra Credit Signup
It seems like there are always people who want to do extra credit. I do not like giving out a bunch of problems...that is just busy work. I have decided that extra credit should be in the form of a report or project .These will be done on either a Mathematician , a Math Problem or a Type of Math (see the form below). The report may be either written or oral to your class. A project would be some sort of multimedia presentation to the class using either PowerPoint or Hyperstudio. If written, the report must be at least 3 pages double spaced with 1 inch margins. A 10 or 12 font is prefered and at least 3 sources must be cited in a bibliograpy. If an oral report or project is done it must be at least 5 minutes in length and must convey what you did, where you found things, etc. The reports and projects will count up to 5% of a quarter grade...meaning that if you have 78% and do a really good job, it will raise you to 83%. They may be done one time a Quarter . 5% is a big grade...so they need to be good. Time and planning are essential. Dont try to knock one out overnight, chances are you wont get a lot of points for something like that. You should also be aware that a multimedia presentation or oral report to your class will most likely get you a better percent than a written regurgitation to me.
