46. History Of Georgiana Marian Kirkman, Piano And Harpsichord Maker
kirkman business, rivaled only by Broadwood, had provided instruments to many anoted person including Queen Charlotte, wife to King George III and to thomas
http://www.uk-piano.org/history/kirkman/
A potted history of
Georgiana Marian Kirkman
the last custodian of the famous
Kirkman piano business.
Georgiana Marian Kirkman was the daughter of Joseph Kirkman (1790-1877) and his wife Louisa. They had six children: Frederick Augustus
Joseph
Alexander Henry
Louisa
Henry John and
Georgiana Marian
Georgiana Marian Kirkman 1828-1898
Georgiana Kirkman, who died 1898, was the last person to be custodian of the famous Kirkman piano makers business. From a book entitled 'A short history of a great house' by Edward Lamburn (London 1938) page 24 gives a brief summary of the transfer of the Kirkman business to John Clementi Collard, rival piano makers (later to become Collard and Collard). The Kirkman male line having ceased Georgiana was having difficulty maintaining the size and standard of the house she approached John Clementi Collard. She explained her position and indicated that the business was available for disposal. Ha asked her the terms. She answered "That you take the business as it stands, at certified cost." He asked about the name and goodwill, she replied "An undertaking that you will not dispose of it, and thatyou will continue to regard it on the same traditions as your own." He agreed, "Yes, I am willing to do that; but the price?" "That is the price." She replied. So over a hundred years of good will changed hands under such unique conditions. A later reference in the book to the estimated worth and date of death of Joseph Kirkman are inaccurate. Joseph, the father of Georgiana actually died in 1877 not 1778 as shown. Also the 'personal fortune' of over £200,000.00 has also been attributed to Abraham Kirkman who died in 1792.

47. The First 50 Years - Rev. Kirkman
THE REVEREND thomas W. kirkman, JR. The Whereas, the Reverend thomas W.kirkman, Jr. has served this Congregation since 1955; and. Whereas
http://www.fpcro.org/First50/Kirkman.htm
THE REVEREND THOMAS W. KIRKMAN, JR. The thorough plans which had been made to effect as smoothly as possible the transition from one pastorate to another resulted in complete success. The Rev. Mr. Kirkman had become the senior pastor so gradually that the church program went on without unusual incident. He was confronted immediately, however, with a personnel problem. A few weeks prior to the retirement of Dr. Riemann , Mr. Waller had tendered his resignation as director of religious education, to become effective June 30, 1958. He had been offered a position with the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Minneapolis. The entire Waller family had been active in the program of the church, and had made many friends. It was with considerable regret that we saw them leave. Fortunately, we were without a successor to Mr. Waller for but a short time during the summer. The Rev. Charles F. Richey, pastor of the Milford Presbyterian Church, was called as assistant pastor, and he was introduced to the Session early in August. Mr. Richey was a graduate of the University of Illinois, had attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a period, and in 1952 was graduated from Princeton Theological Seminary. He immediately began work with our youth. Early in the same year another member was added to the church staff. It will be recalled that after along period of service as organist and choir director, illness had caused the resignation of Mrs. Gertrude Smith. Her replacement, Miss Burkholder, resigned soon afterwards to be married, and it was necessary to secure someone competent to handle the increasing program of church music.

Thomas Donner, M.D.
Assistant Professor of Medicine
M.D.: University of Virginia School of Medicine Clinical and Research Interests: Dr. Donner is exploring the actions of a novel hexose, D-tagatose in man. D-tagatose, developed originally as a bulk sweetener, has been found to delay glucose absorption which can ameliorate glucose intolerance in type 2 diabetics both acutely and chronically, reflected by a decline in HbA1C concentrations. Longer-term studies are underway in type 2 diabetes to assess the potential role of D- tagatose as a new adjunctive therapeutic agent. Academic Office:
