Ziganshina and Kriukov win Russian Cup AA
St. Peterburg’s Natalia Ziganshina won the Russian Cup All-Around competition over Muscovite Yelena Zamolodchikova despite going out of bounds on floor exercise in the final rotation. Zamolodchikova could not make up a 0,250 difference after a wobbly beam set dropped her out of first place. A funky, disco-meets-the-moonwalk floor routine pleased the youngsters in the home crowd and garnered a 9,300 but Ziganshina met the challenge. Ziganshina’s calm and difficult performance also earned 9,300 and kept her in first place. Lobazniuk is pleased to be back Ekaterina Lobazniuk told Worldwide Gymnastics today that she was pleased to be back in competitive form and planned to do her best to make the Russian EF world team for Debrecen and possibly World Cup events in the future. "I feel I have a more serious attitude towards training now than before, Lobazniuk said, "My fans can expect to see more of me." Kolobova sustains concussion Maria Kolobova suffered a concussion hitting her left temple on the bars during her routine. Stunned by the hit, Kolobova stood without knowing what exactly had happened and was carried off the podium. Doctors say she is in no serious danger.

Krylov, Ziganshina Lead after Qualifications After qualifications, Natalia Ziganshina, Yelena Zamolodchikova and Anna Pavlova led the women's standings. Yevgeniy Krylov, Nikolai Kriukov and Yuriy Tikhonovskiy topped the men's rankings. After a long break recuperating from knee operations, Yekaterina Lobazniuk competed only bars where she dismounted with a simple layout and beam where several major breaks showed she has yet to come back to full strength. However, she has matured and intends to fight for a spot on the National Team. 1998 standout Anna Kovaloyva did not qualify to this competition in the spring but was invited by the Federation to "give it one more shot." With major errors on most apparatus, the Velikiy Nogorod native nonetheless appeared to be enjoying herself taking her falls in stride. Meanwhile, Yelena Zamolodchikova showed she wants nothing more than to stay on top of Russian gymnastics. With new routines and steely determination Zamolodchikova is yet more proof from Russian that women's gymnastics does not stop at 17.

Ivan's Childhood
(1962) USSR
Directed by Andrei Tarkovskii
Written by Vladimir Bogomolov and Mikhail Papava. Cinematography by Vadim Iusov. Art Direction by Evgenii Cherniaev. Music by Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov. With Nikolai Burliaev, Valentin Zubkov, Evgenii Zharikov, Stepan Krylov, Nikolai Grin'ko.
In Russian with English subtitles
Ivan's Childhood, Andrei Tarkovsky's feature-length debut, is also known in English under the title My Name Is Ivan . It recounts the story of a boy-soldier who volunteers to work as an agent for Soviet partisans during WWII after his family has been slaughtered by Nazi soldiers. Unlike his adult fellow-partisans, this ten-year-old boy maintains a stoic exterior, seemingly oblivious to the brutality of war.
Based on the story Ivan by Vladimir Bogomolov, the film makes extensive use of visual citations from Dovzhenko's Earth and other early Soviet film texts. Tarkovsky's provocative experimentation, given the context of Soviet restraints, further suggests a re-engagement with the aesthetics of the Early Soviet period in its use of crane shots, double exposure, negative film background, diagonals, and long tracking shots, as well as its combination of documentary footage with passages of unabashed lyricism.
Many of the characteristic oppositional thematic repetitions of the later Tarkovsky make their first appearances in this film: fire and dripping water; shots of the earth and the cries of off-screen birds. His blending of expressionist techniques with surrealism and documentary lends this film an extraordinary emotional range and variety, marking it as one of Tarkovsky's best films.

A.N. Krylov: a short biography
A.N.Krylov Alexei Nikolaevich Krylov was born on August 3, 1863 in a village of the Simbirsk Region in Russia. The name A.N. Krylov is probably one of the most widely known and recognized in Russia among outstanding scientists in the 20th century. Although his research interests were incredibly broad (at least for a scientist of the 20th century), his professional activity could apparently be best characterized by saying that he was a very good Maritime Engineer. This should necessarily mean that he was a very good Applied Mathematician too. Note that in the word "Krylov" the second syllable is stressed and that "y" should be pronounced in the same way as in "Chebyshev". Another possible spelling of "Krylov" is "Kriloff". At the age of 15, Krylov entered a Naval College in 1878 and finished it with distinction in 1884. After spending several years at the Main Hydrographic Administration and at a shipbuilding plant, in 1888 he continued his study in the Naval Academy in Saint-Petersburg. He was a talented and promising student and after ahead-of-schedule graduation from the Academy in 1890 he could stay there as Mathematics and Ship-theory lecturer. The fame came to him in the 1890s, when his pioneering "Theory of oscillating motions of the ship", significantly extending R.E. Froude's rolling theory, became internationally known. This was the first comprehensive theoretical study in the field. In 1898 Krylov received a Gold Medal from

The Bogside Artists (Northern Ireland) Documentary painting of Tom Kelly, Kevin Masson and William Kelly According to English papers: On 30 January 1972 British paratroopers opened fire on civil rights demonstrators in Londonderry. Thirteen were killed. An inquiry in 1972 exonerated the soldiers, concluding they had been fired on first. (...) Another protester died later, bringing the total to 14. The shooting lasted for just half an hour but had a catastrophic effect on what had become known as 'the troubles'. Guests of THE SECRETS OF PERFECTION The Bogside Artists are a group of three men from an area of Derry City, Northern Ireland, known as the Bogside where above mentioned event took place. The artists have experienced the worst of the conflict between Catholics and Protestants, between states of England and Ireland, between Northern Ireland and other part of the country The authors chose described event as main theme of their mural painting and appellation of locality as name of the group. Their work is a commemoration of important anniversaries of Bogside events (the Battle of The Bogside in August 1969, Death of girl Innocence on 7 September 1971, Saturday 15th August 1998).

B C D ... Z by birthday from the calendar Credits and feedback Ivan (Andreyevich) Krylov (1769-1844) Russian writer of fables in the tradition of Aesop and La Fontaine . Krylov satirized social and individual faults in the guise of beasts, producing 203 fables in nine books. They are still an integral part of Russian primary and secondary education. Krylov was in his country one of the great representatives of the Age of Reason. His writings appeared in a period, which was marked by increasingly repressive rule in Russia. "The weak against the strong. Is always in the wrong." Ivan Andreyevich Krylov was born in a provincial town near St. Petersburg into an impoverished family. His father was an army captain in the bureaucracy and died when Krylov was ten. At early age Krylov played violin and composed poetry. He played the violin in innumerable family concerts, in quartets with the best virtuosi of the day, and as a soloist. Krylov had little formal education in his childhood. He entered the imperial civil service and in 1782 he was transferred from Tver to St. Petersburg. Between the years 1783 and 1793 he wrote five comic operas. Krylov became the center of small intellectual circle in St. Petersburg. From 1789 to 1793 he edited with Nikolai I. Novikov and Alexander N. Radishchev a satirical magazine Pochva dukhov . It published social commentary in the guise of letters written by figures from the underworld and soon had troubles with the censor. Krylov's own contributions include 'Kaib, An Oriental Tale,' which depicts insufficiencies of autocracy, and the 'Eulogy to the Memory of My Grandfather', a satire in the best spirit of Enlightenment. Krylov faced political persecution from the repressive government of Catherine the Great and he left St. Petersburg c. 1797.
