All the die-hard vintage MXers were there - Skinny, Bruce, Brad (with his wing clipped). A huge thank you to all the Penrith officials who made the trip up to help with the organisation - I think HEAVEN VMX need a little more practice before we become as accomplised as these guys... And to the Hunter Club who did a fantastic job preparing the track to be vintage friendly as well as providing officials and helpers! The Evo 250 class put on a great display with 17 riders - Matt Park, Jack Hawken and Victor Drew leading the way.

and would be a great help to the members and all lovers of robert Burns John Marshall,John Brown, David Millar, L. Bell, HG McKerrow, D. langlands Seath, John
http://www.burnshowffclub.org/globe.asp
The famous entrance to the Globe If someone were to choose the ideal situation for the commemoration of Robert Burns, for the recitation of his poetry and the singing of his songs, it would have to be in Dumfries, in the Globe Inn, or, as it was in his day, the Globe Hotel. This interesting old hostelry, popularly called 'Burns Howff', is situated in the High Street, along a narrow close opposite Assembly Street. It was near the Poet's house and was 'the tavern to which the Bard gave preference' while he resided in the town. Many a jolly hour he spent there, as have, over the past hundred years, the members and friends of the Howff Club, in captivating surroundings and convivial company.
The courtyard outside The Globe Inn Robert Burns brought many of his cronies to the Globe, including William Nicol, the High School teacher whom Burns met in

Written by: Steven Williams
Robert Stone (Executive Officer of the St George DRLFC) took time out to share his thoughts in this exclusive interview with Saints On TV. SOTV: I'd like to start of by asking you about your playing days. I still have vivid memories of the 1977 Grand Final replay at the SCG. While sitting in the Sheridan Stand and in a moment that brought the house down, I saw you run some 40 metres to score under the posts. Not bad for a back rower.
Tell us what your favourite memories are as a player and how many of these memories come from playing at Kogarah. Who was the best player you played with or against?

90. LIFEBOATS
Several of those involved in the rescue attempts received RNLI Medals Gold to CoxThomas langlands of Whitby, Cox robert Smith of Tynemouth Captain Burton
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/JACKIE_SANDERS/lifeboat.htm
SOME LIFEBOAT STORIES:
WHITBY, YORKSHIRE 19 January 1881 After several days iof heavy snowfall, at 10.30 am on 19 January 1881 Captain Robert Gibson, Harbour Master at Whitby, received a telegram to say that a ship had sunk off Robin Hood's Bay and that her crew had taken to the ship's boat, but had been forced to drop anchor. They were unable to reach land because of very heavy seas. The severity of the wind and the seas at Whitby made it impossible for the Whitby Lifeboat to be launched and sailed around to Robin Hood's Bay so the Lifeboatmen decided to take the lifeboat the 6 miles overland to Robin Hood's Bay and launch from there. No mean feat over very narrow roads and across moorland some 500 feet above sea level in drifting snow up to 7 feet deep in places. About 60 Whitby men were given shovels and began digging to clear the snow from the roads. Horses were hitched to the lifeboat carriage and the "Robert Whitworth" set out on her journey. Eventually some 200 men joined in the snow clearance work. Additional horses were obtained from farmers on the way, eventually numbering 18. Men from Robin Hood's Bay started from their end clearing the snow and after 2 hours the lifeboat descended the very steep hill into the village. The crew of the lifeboat had been involved in the digging but, tired though they were, they then manned the boat and set out to rescue the stranded sailors. Before they could reach them 6 of the boat's oars and the stearing oar were smashed by a heavy wave and they had to return to shore. Whilst the oars were being replaced Cox Henry Freeman asked for volunteers to double bank the oars and the lifeboat set out with 18 men on board and after an hour and a half managed to reach the sailors in the small boat, landing them at Robin Hood's Bay at 4pm. The six rescued crew members (from the Whitby Brig "Visitor") all needed medical attention as did some of the lifeboat crew.

Mathematicians share Wolf Prize
Mathematicians share Wolf Prize
November 20, 1995. The Wolf Foundation of Israel today announced the award of the Wolf Prize jointly to two mathematicians associated with the Institute for Advanced Study. Robert Langlands and Andrew J. Wiles will share the $100,000 prize in mathematics for their ground-breaking research in number theory. The award will be presented to them in Jerusalem in March by Ezar Wiezman, President of Israel. Langlands, 59, has been a member of the permanent Faculty of the Institute for Advanced Study's School of Mathematics since 1972. Wiles, 42, has been a professor at neighboring Princeton University since 1984. He is currently a visiting Member at the Institute for Advanced Study and also was an Institute Member in 1981-82 and 1991-92. More than twenty years ago Langlands defined a series of conjectures in number theory, the Langlands Program, which unified and generalized certain results in number theory and became the basis for new efforts in what is one of the most fundamental areas of classical mathematics. This new work provided the foundation on which Wiles was able to build his famous solution to a long-standing mathematics problem, Fermat's Last Theorem. The Wolf prizes have been given annually since 1978 for outstanding achievement in physics, chemistry, medicine, agriculture, the arts, and mathematics. The Wolf Foundation was established by Ricardo Wolf, a German-born diplomat and philanthropist.

Kenny (left), anxiously awaiting the arrival of puberty Showing off a newly acquired Strat, aged 22 (post puberty) (Click on the photos to enlarge) Kenny was born in Edinburgh on the very day that England won the world cup. A fact in which he senses the cruel hand of fate. He is also, therefore, old enough to know better.
After those long adolescent years, playing Smoke on the Water on one string of an old Spanish guitar, an American friend passed on the wisdom of the ancients (i.e. a 12 bar blues and a pentatonic lick). After many years reverentially picking out these sacred notes, he joined a Bristol based band and realised that learning a few more licks was probably the order of the day, should he not wish to be rumbled.
Following a glittering spell as the resident covers band at the prestigious Redland Tennis Club, he left for the States, where his lack of mullet effectively precluded his joining the bar-band circuit. Despondent as a result of this tonsorial faux-pas, he wound up in squat in London (well actually moved to Cambridge), whereupon he encountered a group of easily impressed individuals. And thus, 2-Sheds Jackson was given life. The rest, as they say, is history. Or rather it would be, should someone have chosen to record it.
"A visceral amalgam of Hendrix and Page, imbued with the mysticism of the Doors, topped off with a righteous slice of Sly-styled funk". This is an inaccurate description of Kenny's style. However, as the, erm, 'Sheds progress from marquees and barns, unleashing their heady mix of 60s psychedelia and, erm, other 60s stuff on an unsuspecting public, thrilled punters may make up their own minds.

Rob covets his sister's mittens Recapturing a misspent youth (Click on the photos to enlarge) Rob was born in 1970 in Shifnal Shropshire and then moved at an early age to the interestingly named Coven in Staffordshire, where he grew up with his sister, Ang. At age 16, his father bought him a couple of guitars and he spent many an evening dreaming of being a combination of Johhny Marr and the lead singer of Stump. In spite of not becoming a rock star overnight, he still managed to pen some memorable songs, mostly in the style of Half Man Half Biscuit. As he puts it, "serious lyrics were not my scene man". As well as a love of music Rob also developed a very early love of football. He thinks that his school day romances might have been marred by the fact that he was always thinking of Steve Bull and the Wolves. Still, he worked on the assumption that, if you got dumped, then you just asked out the next girl you saw that you fancied. Of course you never made a date for a Saturday. Over the years Rob concentrated on his football and would probably be doing so to this day, if it wasn't for the fact that he kept being hospitalised by it on a fairly regular basis. Eventually it had to stop and he faced the prospect of a life without footy.
