Stanislaw Leshniewski 's name is sometimes transliterated as Lesniewski but we will used the form Leshniewski throughout this article. Leshniewski's father was Isydor Leshniewski, a Polish railway engineer. It was a job which involved Isydor Leshniewski being sent to places where railways were being constructed and at the stage when Stanislaw was attending secondary school the family were living in Siberia. Stanislaw attended school there in the town of Irkutsk. Sierpinski . Leshniewski, whose doctoral supervisor was Kazimierz Twardowski, published the two papers A contribution to the analysis of existential propositions and An attempt at a proof of the ontological principle of contradiction while still undertaking his doctoral research. These papers were published in Leshniewski's mother tongue of Polish but in 1913 a Russian translation of the two papers was published under the single title Logical Studies.

    Footnotes
    1. This is similar to the position taken in formal mathematical ontology (Cocchiarella 1991) and the recent work on ontologies in knowledge engineering. The Knowledge Engineering approach is based on the AI notion of conceptualisation According to Gruber (1993).. A conceptualisation is an abstract, simplified view of the world that we wish to represent for some purpose. Every knowledge base, knowledge-based system, or knowledge-level agent is committed to some conceptualisation, explicitly or implicitly. An ontology is defined as a formal specification of a conceptualisation The idea is then to "commit" an ontology to a certain problem domain and also to share "generic" ontologies for different areas within that problem domain. This illustrates the "ontological promiscuity" which is considered as being an essential characteristic of the discipline. (Genesereth and Nilsson 1987 , p. 13), (Guarino et al 1993). Basically, it is the knowledge engineer who determines an ontology specification for a problem domain. The result is in a skill driven engineering practice for building artificial intelligences and structure information banks. In generic theory, this must become a science based on unique generic representations and one unique generic architecture for intelligence. 2. A pioneer of this kind of study from a logico-mathematical viewpoint would have been the 20th-century logician Stanislaw Leshniewski and to some extent, his student Tarski. For an exposition of Leshniewski 's work, see Kotarbinski T,, (1966)

Henry (Alexander) Murray was an American psychologist who developed a theory of human personality based on an individual's inborn needs and his relationship with the physical and social environment. In 1938 he was asked by the U.S. Government to put together a psychological profile on Adolph Hitler. During WW II, he served the U.S. Army by helping the forerunner of the CIA assess the psychological fitness of its agents. Murray's main interest included personology, Melville and the welfare of the world in the atomic age. In his Basic Concepts for a Psychology of Personality , (Journal of Psychology, 15, 1936), he described personology as "the disciplined study of human nature." Sir Ronald Ross
