R oger started his three-sport varsity career at Lyndon during the 1961 soccer season as a tall, lean freshmen goaltender. By the time he was awarded his teaching degree, he had developed an intensity of competition that would set him apart from other Lyndon athletes. Roger's dedication to self-improvement, coupled with his desire to win, helped him to become a respected and outstanding athlete. He always gave 100 percent, no matter what the score. Not only was Roger probably the best goalie to ever keep the Lyndon nets, but he also promptly scored a goal when temporarily moved to a offensive spark during a senior year game. In addition to being a soccer co-captain, Roger was a captain and four-year performer in baseball and basketball. In basketball, Roger's determination allowed him to outplay taller and more heralded centers, providing the necessary rebounding to help a very short 1963-64 Hornet team to 16 wins, including the Ricker Invitational Championships. He also managed to consistently be one of the game's high scorers. No other Lyndon athlete in the past quarter century has superior combined stats for a three-sport, four-year career than Roger. Following graduation, Roger taught at Sacred Heart High School in Newport, VT, for four years and coached three sports as well. In 1969, he decided to leave teaching and became the sports editor of the

Lyndon Station, Wisconsin Dear Cousins and the whole family circle
I hope you will be willing to bear with my outlandish jargon after I tell you that I never majored in English language studies and that my language school was the 35th US Division from Texas. The only certificate issued to me was the award of the Bronze Star Medal for my service with the United States. I was with General Patton. Luck was my partner when on a beautiful June day in the last year, in the city of Metz, I chanced upon Michael Senzig. Since that occurrence made it possible for me today to share the company of this fine flourishing branch of our family. Over a period of nearly ten years, my cousin, Helmut Lang, now deceased, and myself have been delving into our remotest family roots. We have been fortunate enough to authenticate the recorded history back as far as the year 1250. Now I am going to expound for you the five specific and essential features of the life story of our family:

ELIZABETH FARNSWORTH: And now for an historical conversation about race. In calling for a national dialogue last weekend, President Clinton joined a long line of leaders who have grappled with the subject of race in America. And for perspective on that, we turn now to NewsHour regulars Presidential Historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Michael Beschloss, and Journalist and Author Haynes Johnson; and they’re joined tonight by Bill Kristol, editor and publisher of the "Weekly Standard," and Roger Wilkins, professor of American history at George Mason University. Michael, you heard Mark say that perhaps this is a way for the president to get on Mount Rushmore. That its all about historical legacy. How did the speech strike you as an historian? Mr. Beschloss: "I don’t think it’s a speech that will be very long remembered."
