Breve biografia di fra' Luca Pacioli indietro Jacopo dei Barbari, Luca Pacioli, Napoli, museo di Capodimonte Luca Pacioli nacque a Borgo San Sepolcro, presso Arezzo, attorno agli anni 1445-1450 e lì visse fin verso il 1464 ,quando si trasferì a Venezia, al servizio del mercante Antonio Rompiasi. Il soggiorno in una delle città europee più vivaci sia in ambito culturale che commerciale fu determinante per la formazione culturale del giovane Luca, che ebbe anche l'occasione di approfondire i propri studi matematici alla Scuola di Rialto sotto la guida di Domenico Bragadin, pubblico lettore di matematica. Tra il 1470 ed il 1477, Pacioli conobbe molti artisti che citò a varie riprese nelle sue opere e precisamente Leon Battista Alberti (di cui fu ospite per qualche mese, come si legge nella Divina Proportione , P.I c.29v) e Melozzo da Forlì a Roma, Bramante, Francesco di Giorgio Martini ed il conterraneo Piero della Francesca ad Urbino. Nel 1477, dopo essere entrato nell'ordine dei frati minori conventuali francescani ed aver compiuto gli studi di teologia e di filosofia, Pacioli venne chiamato nello Studio di Perugia per insegnare l'aritmetica ed il suo incarico venne rinnovato fino al 1480. Dopo un breve soggiorno a Firenze, Pacioli tornò a Perugia nel 1486 per riprendere l'insegnamento dell'aritmetica e mantenne l'incarico fino al 1488. Le testimonianze relative agli spostamenti del frate francescano negli anni 1489-93 sono relativamente scarse: sappiamo che Luca si recò per un certo periodo a Napoli, ma gli storici non sono concordi nel determinare la data precisa. Più documentata, invece, è la polemica che coinvolse Pacioli ed il Ministro generale del suo Ordine il quale gli intimò, pena la scomunica, di interrompere l'insegnamento ai giovani secolari: il dissidio venne in seguito ricomposto e Maestro Luca venne reintegrato nel convento di Sansepolcro, che lasciò alla fine del 1493 per raggiungere la Provincia minoritica di Padova, dove non èda escludere che abbia accettato un insegnamento pubblico di matematica (e forse per questo venne prontamente richiamato ad Assisi dal Ministro generale).

American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Rare Book Collection In August 2001 the John Davis Williams Library acquired the collection of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Over the course of its history, the AICPA developed the world's largest and most prestigious accounting library. Special Collections received an extensive photograph collection and approximately 190 rare volumes documenting the history of accounting. Piero Della Francesca Leone Battista Alberti Durante su permanencia en la Universidad de Perugia, Pacioli escribió su segundo manuscrito, dedicado a " la juventud de Perugia. ". Después de 1481, Pacioli viajó a través de Italia y por algunos lugares fuera de ella, hasta que en 1486 fue llamado por los Franciscanos nuevamente a la Universidad de Perugia. Durante este tiempo, Pacioli comenzó a usar el título de "Magister", Gran Maestro, equivalente a un profesor de tiempo completo en los tiempos modernos. El Summa hizo de Pacioli una celebridad y le aseguró un lugar en la historia como " El Padre de la Contabilidad". El Summa fue el trabajo sobre matemáticas posiblemente más leído en toda Italia, y uno de los primeros libros impresos en la prensa de Gutenberg. Uno de sus alumnos sería Leonardo Da Vinci. Luca Pacioli gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Mathematiker des 15. Jahrhunderts - allerdings mehr auf Grund seiner kompilatorischen Arbeiten und seiner Lehrtätigkeit als wegen seiner eigenen Beiträge zur Entwicklung der Mathematik. Pacioli erfüllte vor allem die Funktion mittelalterlicher Kopisten, die die überlieferten Kenntnisse von einer Generation an die nächste weitergaben. Obwohl sein Beitrag zur mathematischen Entwicklung marginal ist, war seine Tätigkeit als Lehrer und Vermittler von großer Bedeutung für die Mathematik. Die Summa Paciolis steht an der Nahtstelle zweier Epochen: mit ihrer Gliederung und ihrem enzyklopädischen Ziel, das gesamte Wissen über ein bestimmtes Gebiet abzudecken, steht sie in der mittelalterlichen Tradition der Scholastik, während auf der anderen Seite die Neigung des Autors zu spezialisiertem Fachwissen und die neue Bewertung der Rolle der Mathematik in Wissenschaft, Technik und Kunst die Summa als ein Werk der Renaissance erscheinen lassen. This line intersects the top edge of the picture at a significant vertical axis through his the V-shaped gap in the fringe of his hair, and the middle of the knot of his belt. 2. A circle is drawn on this vertical with the diameter given by the height of the picture. This circle intersects the pointing stick exactly where it meets the upper edge of the chalkboard. 3. Two regular pentagrams are inscribed in the circle, one "upright" and one "upside down". The point where they intersect on the horizontal diameter of the circle is the same point at which the pointing stick cuts it. Thus the stick is exactly positioned to define the two pentagrams. The sides of the pentagrams pass through Pacioli's right eye, the two outer knots on his belt, the gap between his 2nd and 3rd fingers on his left hand, the end of the "ink-cylinder" and the clothing of P and his mysterious friend.
