Pa Kua Overview www.Chiflow.com Pa-Kua, or Eight Diagrams, has basically two symbols referred to as Pre-Heaven and Post-Heaven. A philosophical understanding of these two symbols, their aspects and their properties, can lead one to discover the multiple aspects that lay beyond the even basic 64 hexagrams. The purpose of Pa-Kua Chang (Eight Diagrams Palm) practice is to harmonize the aspects of these two symbols within ourselves to advance ourselves mentally, physically, and spiritually. When the student is able to harmonize the polar aspects of the Pre-Heaven symbol with the cyclic aspects of the Post-Heaven symbol, the student really can grasp not only the free style application of the art, but the curved line of the Tai Chi symbol. For it is the curved line, or S Curve, which is the combination of the polar and cyclic aspects. While studying many different ones, he also joined the military in the elite unit of the Airborne Rangers. One of his most famous teachers was Filipino great Florendo Visitacion, who taught him his system of Vee Arnis Jitsu. Mr. Hernandez is, among other things, a specialist in firearms and edged weapon defenses. The tape starts with a short bio of the author and a couple of scenarios of real life self-defense situations. I particularly liked the stomp after Mr. Hernandez leaves the bar fight :-) The instructions begin with some basic entries: Outside, inside, gun ting, and divided. Somewhere in the midst of unrecorded history, Pa Kua Chuen evolved. How or when it happened, no one really knows. There are many legends attributing to its evolution. Still, they are little better than hypothesis. Pa Kua is one of the three branches of 'Nei-chia' or internal family of Chinese pugilism. The other two are Tai Chi Chuen and Hsing-I Chuen. The name Pa Kua was derived from the philosophy of the various doctrine of the Book of Changes. This script, purported to be written 3,000 years ago, was originally intended to be a source of oracles. As time went by, the profoundness of the text was found to be so enhancing that it came to be regarded as one of the Five Classics of Confucianism, it served both Confucians and Taoists. The central theme of the text propounded continuous change and transformations of all existence. Many prominent monks and intellectuals utilized this principle and evolve a system of pugilism. Pak Kua Chuen concerns change. It is all flux. Nothing stands still. Other than that of I-Ching or Book of Changes, little is heard of Pak Kua in the early days. The earliest mention of it concerned the exploits of a certain Tung Hai Chuan during the Ching dynasty. Tung was born in Wenan Hsien, in the province of Hobei.

These trigrams are symbols which are used to represent all natural phenomena as described in the ancient Chinese text of divination, the Book of Changes (Yi Jing). Zhang means palm and designates Ba Gua Zhang as a style of martial art, which emphasizes the use of the open hand in preference to the closed fist. Ba Gua Zhang, as a martial art, is based on the theory of continuously changing in response to the situation at hand in order to overcome an opponent with skill rather than brute force. A lthough there are several theories as to the Origins of Ba Gua Zhang, recent and exhaustive research by martial scholars in Mainland China conclude without reasonable doubt that the Art is the creation of a single individual, Dong Hai Chuan. Dong was born in Wen An County, Hebei Province about 1813. Dong practiced local martial arts (which reportedly relied heavily upon the use of open hand palm techniques) from his youth and gained some notoriety as a skilled fighter. At about 40 years of age, Dong left home and traveled southward.

Regenbogen / Geschichte von Claudia Hetze In der Bibel wird berichtet, daß der Regenbogen erst nach der Sintflut am Himmel sichtbar geworden sei (Matth. 16,2 u. 3). In der griechischen Mythologie war der Regenbogen Kennzeichen der Götterbotin Iris. Auf ihm stieg sie zur Erde nieder. Zugleich wurde der Regenbogen als Teil ihres farbigen Gewandes angesehen. Poseidonios (135-51 v.u.Z.), ein Philosoph der stoischen Schule in Athen und anderen griechischen Orten betrachtete den Regenbogen als Teilbild von Sonne und Mond, das durch Hohlspiegelwirkung an Wasserwolken erzeugt wird. Bei den Inkas (13.-16. Jh) waren die Sonne und der Mond (als Schwester der Sonne) die Hauptgottheiten. Der König selbst, der Inka, galt als Gott und verkörperte die Sonne. Die Erhabenheit der Sonne und ihre Ausstrahlung äußerte sich im Regenbogen, den man als eine Gottheit betrachtete. In der chinesischen Literatur findet man ebenfalls eine Erklärung des Regenbogens oder des "Regendrachens" vor. So sagte Sun Ssu-kung, Astronom des Astronomischen Büros, im 11. Jh: "Der Regenbogen ist ein Bild (literarisch "Schatten") der Sonne im Regen und erfolgt, wenn die Sonne darauf scheint. (nach N. Sivin). Diese Bemerkung wurde von dem bedeutenden Gelehrten und Verwaltungsexperten Shen Kua (1031-1095) überliefert, der z.B. bei einer diplomatischen Mission in Kensu 1070 einen doppelten Regenbogen beobachtete.
