LIST OF PHOTOGRAPHERS
TALBOT WILLIAM HENRY FOX (1800-1877) TALBOT English philosopher, mathematician, philologist, agyptiologist, and physicist. He decoded and translated the ancient Syrian and Haldaic. While engaged in all these activities and during a trip to Italy where he was painting using a Camera Obscura, he came up with the idea to try and imprint the picture with an easier way. His research between 1834 and 1850 laid the basis for photography as we know it today, while he managed to stabilize his first paper negative in 1835. He named his method KALOTYPIA. That was its name until John Herscel finally renamed it photography. His problem however was that he begun to register patents of ideas that were not his. Regardless of the eccentricities of his character however he is the genuine type of homo universalis, and the kind of man who can realize and shape whatever his mind creates. Inglaterra,

William henry fox talbot, chemist, linguist, archaeologist, and pioneerphotographer was born in Melbury Abbas, Dorset, on February 11, 1800.
http://www.thedorsetpage.com/people/Fox_Talbot.htm
William Henry Fox Talbot , chemist, linguist, archaeologist, and pioneer photographer was born in Melbury Abbas, Dorset, on February 11, 1800. Talbot was educated at Harrow and at Trinity College, Cambridge, and published many articles in the fields of mathematics, astronomy, and physics. He is best known for his development of the calotype, an early photographic process that was an improvement over the daguerreotype of the French inventor L.-J.-M. Daguerre. Talbot's calotypes involved the use of a photographic negative, from which multiple prints could be made; had his method been announced but a few weeks earlier, he and not Daguerre would probably have been known as the founder of photography. In 1802 Thomas Wedgwood, son of the famous potter Josiah Wedgwood, reported his experiments in recording images on paper or leather sensitized with silver nitrate. Although he could record silhouettes of objects placed on the paper, he was not able to make them permanent and, to his disappointment, he failed to record a camera image. Unaware of the work of Wedgwood and the French pioneers, Talbot, was led to invent a photographic process because of his inability to draw landscapes. On a holiday trip to Italy in 1833, the idea came to him of recording by chemical means the images he observed in his camera obscura.

The Photographic Art of William Henry Fox Talbot. Princeton 2000. 4to. 256 S. mit 127 teils farb., meist ganzseit. Abb., Bibliographie, Glossar, Index,Ln.
William Henry Fox Talbot (1800-1877) is best remembered as the scientist who invented photography. A classicist, physicist, and mathematician by training, Talbot originally viewd his new invention as a means of visual documentation, particularly of the botanical specimen he loved so dearly. But gradually, his new technology taught him to see, and the growth of Talbot's personal vision defined the beginnings of modern photography. The resulting corpus of work ranged from seminal early images rich in primal beauty to later, fully sophisticated photographs. Illuminating these images with excerpts from Talbot's own writings and those of his contemporaries, this book is a visual celebration of the early days of photography.

To make this picture, Talbot laid a piece of lace on chemically sensitized paper and allowed the light of the sun gradually to fix its negative image precisely, down to the smallest fold or imperfection. This simple operation had never been possible before photography was invented. The invention was made public in January 1839, when France announced the daguerreotype as its gift to the world. Talbot, who independently had invented another form of photography several years earlier, then quickly stated his own claim. His process, in which any number of positive paper prints could be made from a single negative, soon triumphed over the daguerreotype process, which produced unique pictures on metal. Talbot's Lace is not merely a copy of unprecedented ease and fidelity. It is also a picture, which transposed the lace from the realm of objects to the realm of pictures, where it has enjoyed a new and unpredictable life.

    William Henry Fox Talbot

William Henry Fox Talbot had been working on his photographic process for around eight years when he heard the news in 1839 that Daguerre had published his photographic process. Talbot rushed to publish his work. The two processes were quite different, although both relied on light-sensitive silver salts. Talbot realised the usefulness of a negative, allowing you to make as many prints as were required. His paper-based process also had the advantage of requiring less equipment in the field, but it took much longer to produce a print, while the Daguerre process - after the lengthy exposure - was almost instant, taking only a few minutes. Talbot's improved process, the Calotype, was published a couple of years later, and gave improved results, The sharpness was still limited by the paper texture, and it was best used where broad effect rather than fine detail was required. However there are some very fine examples showing good architectural detail in later work, particularly where the paper was waxed to improve its transparency.

Herschel William Henry Fox Talbot's mother, Lady Elizabeth Fox Strangways, was the second daughter of Henry Thomas Fox Strangways, the 2nd Earl of Ilchester. She married William Davenport-Talbot who owned Lacock Abbey, some 5 miles south of Chippenham, Wiltshire, in 1796. William Henry Fox Talbot was born in 1800 at Melbury Abbas, but unfortunately, Davenport-Talbot died a few months after his son's birth, leaving the estate with large debts. For some years William and his mother lived in the houses of relatives. His mother remarried in 1804 to Rear Admiral Charles Fielding, and by this he gained not only a father but he soon had two younger half-sisters. They remained close to him throughout his life.
