    http://www.uni.edu/~andersow/texasboulderfield.htm
A Spectacular Boulder Field Near the Head of Texas Creek Drainage
Wayne I. Anderson Yielding to gravity, slabs of bedrock slid and tumbled. Down the slopes, giant rocks crashed and rumbled. The boulders above Texas Creek now seem out of place, detached from their home high on the mountain face. O'Hanlon (1999) describes the Texas Creek Boulder Field as one of the most interesting boulder fields in the Sangre de Cristo Range and indicates that overall the feature gives the impression of moonscape. His excellent trail guide provides information on how to reach the site. Thomason and Porter (1997) illustrate a portion of the impressive boulder field at 11,500 feet, high in the Texas Creek drainage. Intrigued by these accounts, Jan and I hiked up to the boulder field in September of 2001 to take a look. The Texas Creek Boulder Field is a fine example of landslide topography. In geologic usage, landslide refers to a moderately rapid to rapid movement of earth material such as downward sliding or falling of a mass of rock, weathered material, or a mixture of the two. Five types of landslides are commonly recognized: slumps, debris slides, debris falls, rock slides, and rock falls. Cabin-size boulders are common in the spectacular Texas Creek Boulder Field on the east flank of the Sangre de Cristo Range, northwest of Westcliffe, Colorado. Composed of sandstone and conglomerate, the huge boulders represent rock falls and rock slide events, during the last 50,000 years of earth history. Geologist on sandstone boulder provides scale; photo taken looking eastward toward the Wet Mountains, September of 2001.

    Republicans Brace For Summer Race
    by Eric Thomason
After its recent convention in Mahopac, the local Republican Party in Putnam County has been providing the best and worst of politics to the voters. The best is a high level of competition and the offering up of distinct candidate choices. The worst is in-party fighting. accusations, and a general feeling of nastiness in the air. One of the causes of friction was the Party’s selection of Nick Chahales as the Republican candidate for District 9 Legislative Representative, a position held by incumbent Regina Morini. Morini felt slighted by the Republican Party and expressed wonder that the party she has represented would choose to support another candidate. However, though she lost at the convention, she has garnered support from prominent Republican office holders, much to the chagrin of Chahales. Chahales won the convention vote yet was not supported by many Republican leaders within the County and State. They came out and pledged their support to Morini. Chahales admitted the support from prominent leaders hurt his feelings and said, "they should respect the endorsed candidate." Morini staged a press conference in Carmel hours before the convention to display the support she received from some of the area’s top republicans including, State Senator Vincent Leibell, County Executive Bob Bondi, Legislative Chairman Bob Pozzi and Philipstown’s Legislator Vinny Tamagna.

    http://www.murdervictims.com/CAH/michael_thomason.htm
May 1999 by one of his three sisters, Patty Keister Michael Thomason was the first born and only son of Juanita and Bob Thomason. He was a very caring and loving son and brother. He did not believe in violence. Mike went out of his way to always help others. I remember how he always helped our elderly neighbor with his bills, and was there to wait and help out numerous times for the ambulance when our neighbor was having heart problems. At the time of Michael's brutal murder, he was working as a corrections officer in Kansas City, Missouri. He was also taking classes to become a counselor at the prison to try and help the inmates change their lives. He was like by both his co-workers and the inmates. On September 16, 1992, Carlos Medrona savagely took my brother's life and, along with Mike's life, Carlos took years off both our mom's and dad's lives. You can tell when you look into their eyes. I have a hard time myself now when I'm out, especially when my two sons, ages 7 and 11, are with me, at night worrying about walking through a parking lot or even the car pulling up next to ours at a stoplight. Mike had a 1969 Cadillac as he liked old collector cars. Although we'll never know for sure, the police feel that Carlos was out for Mike's car, but in Kansas at the time of his murder, you had to be able to prove pre-meditation to get a first-degree conviction. Mike was stabbed 61 times, both on the front and back of his body, and beaten with a 2' x 4'.
