46. Life And Children Of Sir Gilbert Pickering
on 17th October 1668 at titchmarsh and was succeeded in the Baronetcy by his son,John who passed the title to his son, Gilbert, to his son, edward who died
http://www.stillman.org/pickrg2.htm
Life of Sir Gilbert Pickering
Baronet of Nova Scotia 1st
Sir Gilbert Pickering was the son of Sir John Pickering of Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire by Susannah Dryden, an aunt of John Dryden the Poet Laureate. Gilbert was baptised at Titchmarsh on 10th March 1610-11. He was admitted to Gray's Inn on 6th November 1629 and created [1st] Baronet of Nova Scotia at some uncertain date [circa 1632]. In the Short Parliament of 1640 and throughout the Long Parliament, he represented the County of Northampton.
At the beginning of the war he adopted the Parliamentary cause and, as Deputy-Lieutenant and one of the Parliamentary Committee, was active in raising troops and money for Parliament in his county. In the Revolution of 1648 he sided with the Army and was appointed one of the King's judges, but attended two sittings of the Court only and did not sign the Death Warrant. Nevertheless he was successively appointed a member of each of the five Councils of State of the Commonwealth, of the smaller Council installed by the Army on 29th May 1653, and of that nominated in accordance with the Instrument of Government in December 1653.
He sat for Northamptonshire in the "Little Parliament" of 1653 and in the two Parliaments called by Cromwell as Protector.

I have both bought this book and Titchmarsh's one. Both are classics of that subject. Titchmarsh's one is more difficult to read though is even more comphrehensive!. Edward's one is more concise and is more easy to read === One specific point about this book whereas all other books do not have is that it includes the original paper ( in translation) of Riemann's original classic paper. I think this is very important and was neglected by all other books on this subject. From that not only we can have a more thorough understanding to what Riemann originally thinked and developed his famous function and this also serves as a respect to Riemann, one of the three greatest mathematicians of modern times!! ( the other two being Euler and Gauss. Newton, the greatest one of them all was not included as we usually do not include him in these periods)

JUNE 1 - BIRTHS Sir Frank Whittle
    (source)
    Born 1 June 1907; died 8 Aug 1996.
English aviation engineer and pilot who was a pioneer in the field of jet propulsion, which he used to develop aircraft that could fly at faster speeds and higher altitudes than piston-engine propeller airplanes of the 1920s. While he was at Cranwell, still only 21 years of age, Whittle began to consider the possibilities of jet propulsion as applied to aircraft. By 1930, he had designed and patented a jet aircraft engine. After 11 years, Whittle's engine, tested and modified, successfully powered a Gloster-Whittle E.28/39 , on a historic 17-min flight on 15 May 1941. Design work continued, and by the end of WW II, the Gloster Meteor became the RAF's first jet fighter that would fly 200-mph faster than the RAF's Spitfires and Hurricanes. Edward Charles Titchmarsh
    (source)
    Born 1 June 1899; died 18 Jan 1963.
English mathematician whose contributions to analysis placed him in the forefront of his profession. His contributions helped resolve the differences between the general theory of quantum mechanics and the methods used to solve particular problems in quantum theory. All Titchmarsh's work is in analysis. His early studies were on Fourier series, Fourier integrals, functions of a complex variable, integral equations and the Riemann zeta function. From 1939, Titchmarsh concentrated on the theory of series expansions of eigenfunctions of differential equations, work which helped to resolve problems in quantum mechanics. His work on this topic occupied him for the last 25 years of his life
