The composition of whole numbers has long fascinated both professional and amateur mathematicians. Consider, for example, the sequence of squares of whole numbers: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, and so forth. As the squares get bigger, the gaps between them get longer and longer. Clearly, most numbers are not squares of whole numbers. Some, however, can be written as the sum of two squares: 13 = 9 + 4. Others cannot. To get a sum of 6, the only squares available are 4 and 1, and that's not enough. But three squares are sufficient: 6 = 4 + 1 + 1. Similarly, 7 can't be written as the sum of three squares, but it can be written as the sum of four squares: 7 = 4 + 1 + 1 + 1. Two squares suffice for 8 (4 + 4); 9 is itself a square; 10 = 9 + 1; 11 = 9 + 1 + 1; 12 = 9 + 1 + 1 + 1 or 4 + 4 + 4. You might suspect that, at some point, four squares would no longer be enough to express a given whole number. This reasonable supposition was overturned in seventeenth century, when Pierre de Fermat proved that every positive whole number can be expresed as a sum of at most four squares. In 1777, Edward Waring, a practicing physician and mathematics professor at the University of Cambridge, conjectured that something similar could be proved for cubes, fourth powers, and so on. He stated, without proof, that it would take the sum of at most 9 cubes or 19 fourth powers to express any whole number.

The character of GAY STANHOPE FALCON , also known simply as THE FALCON , was created in 1940 by Michael Arlen in his short story, "Gay Falcon," as a sort of freelance adventurer and troubleshooter, definitely on the hardboiled side, a man who makes his living "keeping his mouth shut and engaging in dangerous entreprises," according to Otto Penzler et al's Detectionary . And, like Boston Blackie , a long, lucrative and convuluted career in other media followed that single short story appearance, as The Falcon's occupation and even his name were changed from medium to medium. And, as far as I know, not one of the films or television or radio episodes ever really bothers to explain why he's known as The Falcon. The Falcon was first brought to the screen in 1941, in a film by RKO, as a replacement for its popular series of B's featuring Leslie Charteris' The Saint . Except for the name change, at first it was pretty hard to tell the difference. The Falcon was now a good-looking suave, sophisticated type, a sort of freelance gentleman adventurer. Whatever the reason, though, the first film, 1941's The Gay Falcon , was successful enough to warrant a long string of sequels, three with George Sanders (who had previously played The Saint) in the lead, although now called GAY LAWRENCE (as far as I know, not one of the films or television or radio episodes ever explains why he's known as The Falcon) and nine more with Sanders' real-life brother, Tom Conway, as the Falcon's brother

Awards Edward Warning helped many people through math and science. Since he did all of this he won awards for his duties in his life time. One of the things that he was one of was a Fellow of Royal Society in 1763. After about twenty-one years he won and became Royal Society Copley. He won a medal for that in the year of 1784.
