Life
He was born at his parents' home in Hove, Sussex, UK, on November 1st 1877. At that time, his father, a shrewd and extremely wealthy stockbroker and businessman, was still plain William Cuthbert Quilter, but in 1897, Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee Year, he became Sir Cuthbert Quilter, Bart. Sir Cuthbert was an art collector (his collection was well-known in its day) and he owned a very substantial estate in Suffolk, England. Photograph: Howard Coster Roger was the third of five sons, in a large family. His mother encouraged Roger's artistic inclinations, and he was devoted to her. He attended a preparatory school in Farnborough and in January 1892, he began at Eton College, where, though the emphasis was upon sporting achievement, he was allowed to pursue his musical studies. However, Eton's atmosphere was not congenial for someone of his sensitivity, and in later years, he was reported to have said that he hated his time there. Around 1896 a family friend suggested that he continue his musical studies in Frankfurt. To go abroad to study was still a common route at this time, since the English music academies were not especially well-established. So Quilter enrolled at the Hoch Conservatory at Frankfurt-am-Main; he took composition lessons with Ivan Knorr, as did Balfour Gardiner, Norman O'Neill, Cyril Scott, and the redoubtable Percy Grainger, though they were not all there at the same time. They had in common a dislike of Beethoven, and they became known as the 'Frankfurt Group'.

Yoga and Christianity: Are They Compatible?
Michael Gleghorn
What is Yoga?
What is yoga? For many in the West, yoga is simply a system of physical exercise, a means of strengthening the body, improving flexibility, and even healing or preventing a variety of bodily ailments. But if we inquire into the history and philosophy of yoga we discover that "much more than a system of physical exercise for health, Yoga is . . . [an] ancient path to spiritual growth." It is a path enshrined in much of the sacred literature of India. Thus, if we truly want a better understanding of yoga, we must dig beneath the surface and examine the historical roots of the subject. Before we begin digging, however, we must first understand what the term "yoga" actually means. "According to tradition, 'yoga' means 'union,' the union...of the finite 'jiva' (transitory self) with the infinite'...Brahman' (eternal Self)." "Brahman" is a term often used for the Hindu concept of "God," or Ultimate Reality. It is an impersonal, divine substance that "pervades, envelops, and underlies everything." With this in mind, let's briefly look at three key texts that will help us chart the origin and development of yoga within India.

Someone told him to stop sucking it, and added that unless he did so, the thumb would wither away. He put his two thumbs together and looked at them for a long time. “They look alike to me,” he said to himself. “I can’t see that the thumb I suck is any smaller than the other. I wonder if she could be lying to me.” Here in this simple story we have rejection of constituted authority, faith in his own interpretation of the meaning of observed data, and finally, imputation of moral obliquity to a person whose judgement differed from his own. Thompson Yulidjirri

Thompson Yulidjirri is a respected senior artist and ceremonial elder in Western Arnhem Land and for many years he has played an important role in instructing young and emerging artists from this area.
He is well known for miniaturised images of mimi figures, elegant depictions of brolgas and bush turkey, both his totems, as well as for his paintings of the Ubarr ceremony, done in the x-ray or rarrk (cross-hatching) style common to this region. His ceremonial images lead the viewer into sacred and ritual realms.
He has been featured in several documentaries and has travelled overseas to exhibit his painting and demonstrate his technique. He is also a respected Aboriginal dancer, who, in a joint venture with Stalker Theatre and Marageku Dance Companies, conceived and devised the production of ‘Mimi’, a show which has toured Australia, Europe and parts of Asia. He was also one of the choreographers of the Aboriginal dance performed as part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. subjects and themes collections Artbank, Sydney.

Weldon Says Ballistic Missile Most Likely WMD Delivery Method

During a speech on the House floor, Weldon countered Democratic assertions that weapons of mass destruction smuggled into the country by terrorist groups threaten the United States more than missiles. "When Saddam Hussein chose to destroy American lives, he did not pick a truck bomb," Weldon told his colleagues in a floor speech. "He did not pick a chemical agent. He picked a Scud missile." The Pennsylvania lawmaker also shot down as "disingenuous" Democratic claims that a U.S. National Missile Defense system could be easily defeated by decoys, while at the claiming at same time the rogue missile threat was exaggerated.

"A continuing need is seen to sustain a credible deterrent against potential state sponsors, but also important, appears to be the need to develop and sustain an increasingly proactive deterrent against terrorist groups and individuals operating independently. Developing deterrents against independent groups may diminish the probability of use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorists and the potential for their use as a retaliatory measure by U.S. policymakers."

Weldon W. Townsend Weldon W. Townsend, 79, of Oxnard, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura.
He was a 35-year county resident.
The son of Walter and Eula (Gardner) Townsend, Mr. Townsend was born April 14, 1923, in Rising Star, Texas. He attended schools in Portales, N.M. During World War II, he served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He was in the southwest Pacific for 19 months on the USS Curtiss, with campaigns in the Marshall, Gilbert and Mariana Islands. He came home on a well-deserved leave, then went back into action to Okinawa, stationed on the USS Curtiss. A kamikaze (suicide) plane hit the ship, killing everyone in sickbay, including the pharmacist mates. Many survivors were critically burned and the ship was put on 48-hour alert in case of another attack. After the three years of service, Mr. Townsend returned home to Portales, N.M. He attended Eastern New Mexico University on the GI Bill. He then moved to Portland, Ore., where he worked for Safeway stores. He then settled in Visalia, Calif., before moving to Oxnard, where he continued to work in grocery sales.

The Randwick Botany Cycling Club held its first club time trial for 2001, at
Heffron Park, Maroubra on Sunday 29 April 2001. Some 36 junior and senior club
riders competed in some exciting racing against-the-clock. Handicap and
Scratch races where also conducted. The event was followed by a BBQ for
riders, officials and spectators. Many of the riders were completely exhausted afterwards having done a 90km training ride then returning to the club from the ride and straight into the races. It was a fantastic day which culminated in a well earned rest by the riders as they kicked up their heels and enjoyed a beautiful BBQ lunch complete with magnificent pasta dishes, salad, boiled potatoes, fresh buttered breadstick and a magnificent fruit salad. Everyone then sat about and had a magnificent afternoon in the sunshine, told stories (mainly cycling of course) and enjoyed each others company. It was fantastic to see the members enjoying what is one of the great strengths of our club, the comradery and strong social theme.
