Henry Woodhouse The Early Years Born Turin, Italy, June 24, 1884. Original name: Mario Terenzio Enrico Casalegno. Son of Ludwig/Lodovico Casalegno, a "prominent manufacturer" and Carolyn (Garino) Casalegno. He was early thrown on his own resources, his father having died before Mario finished his schooling, leaving a wife and seven children, and business debts. [Note to psychohistorians: Woodhouse never married, and used any means available to avoid debtors.] Mario attended high school in Turin. Going to France, he was able to settle his family's affairs. Before coming to the United States in 1904, he traveled and studied in various cities in France, Switzerland, England, and Belgium. Taking advantage of every opportunity to improve his knowledge of language and science, he took a particular interest in economics, sociology, and aeronautics. The places where he studied aren't mentioned by name. In 1905, less than a year after arriving in the United States, he was working as a cook. A fellow employee came near him and said something. "The big man had been working all night and was in a bad humor. He said something to me in an angry way and I replied simply 'Oh, go along.' He jumped at me. I had a knife in my hand with which I had been working in the kitchen. After he jumped at me, the next thing I knew he was dead." He was sentenced to four years and two months in Clinton Prison in Dannemora, NY. He was released in 1909. He took out his naturalization papers later in 1909, although there appears to be a question as to whether he concealed the fact of his conviction. On February 24, 1917, he legally took the name of Henry Woodhouse. He became a naturalized citizen on May 28, 1917. It's unclear whether this discrepancy (1909 vs. 1917) is an indication that his 1909 application was turned down; or whether his naturalization was revoked and then reinstated.

A key member of the literary circle that included P. B. and Mary Shelley, John Keats, Charles Lamb, and William Hazlitt, Hunt was also a passionate and outspoken participant in the London political scene. This new edition will fill an major gap in Romantic studies by making available for the first time in a single edition all Hunt’s major works, fully annotated and with a consolidated index. The set will include all of Hunt's poetry, and an extensive selection of his periodical essays, many of which have never been reprinted.
