This Website Is Dedicated To A Great Winter Sport! Broomball was first played in Yellowknife at the local Winter Carnivals however it was marred with continuous fighting and it was thought that an organized Association would be a benefit. The first season saw 12 Co-Ed Broomball teams take part and at the end of the first season it was deemed a success. The Organizers then decided to start a Men's Broomball Association and so it began with the first two teams the Gold Brickers and the Ravens. The Yellowknife Men's Broomball Association began in 1979 with the two teams and has had as many as six league teams in a season. Each year the Yellowknife Men form an all star team known as The Ravens to compete at the Canadian National Championships. Entering their 24th season, the Yellowknife Men's League continues to grow thanks in part to the Yellowknife Junior Boys program which began in 1990. The Yellowknife Junior program has produced some outstanding players over the years. The program continues to be a starting point for many of today's Ravens players.

. March 1988 was the year that we sent the first Australian team overseas, to Canada, for 21 matches in 27 days, 7 players from Adelaide attended. Later that year we expanded to 6 teams, with the addition of the Vipers and the Hackers. In 1991 we sent a team to the 1st World Broomball Championships in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, some 15 players from Adelaide represented Australia. 1995 saw 2 members from Adelaide attend the Broomball Mania VIII, held in the USA. Followed up by a further three representitives (and only Australians) to the 2nd World broomball Tournament in in Victoria, British Columbia in 1996. Adelaide was the host of the 1998 Australian Broomball Championships which will be held in from June 5th - 8th. This event was unfortunately won by the ACT in both the Men's and Coed divisions. The 1998 World Broomball Tournament (III) held in Bolzano Italy, was attended by 3 more members from Adelaide (again the only Australians) joining a Coed team with members from many other parts of the world.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the USBA Nationals 2003 will be postponed.
The contract to host this tournament was awarded to Guy Tomko who has elected to back out of the host responsibilities and run his own local tournament the weekend of March 20-23, 2003 in Cleveland, Ohio. His decision was in part due to the recent ruling by the International Federation of Broomball Associations (IFBA) that members of the USA Broomball Association would be banned from the IFBA if they chose to participate in the USBA Nationals.
The USBA is disputing this ruling with the IFBA on the basis of unnecessary restrictions placed upon United States broomball players, and the ruling hindering the right of all players in the United States to pursue and enjoy recreational activities in the United States. The USBA feels that this ruling is excessive and places an undue restriction upon the free will of all players to participate in any broomball activities of their choice.
We are looking forward to conducting this tournament at a later date and will post information as soon as it is available. Any questions can be routed to any of the USBA Executive members as listed on the USBABROOMBALL.COM site.

    1995 Canadian National Broomball Championship
The 1995 Women's Broomball Championship was held in Barrie, Ontario during the week of April 5 - 9. Despite the weather conditions (much snow), teams from every province and territory were represented with the exception of PEI and the Yukon. Provinces were placed into two divisions, according to last year's standings, for Round robin play. There were six teams in each division, and after the round robin, the Top two teams in the two divisions moved on to the "A" Pool for Playoffs, and the next two (3rd and 4th), in the two divisions entered the "B" Pool Playoffs. The remaining teams were eliminated from the competition (Edmonton Angels, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and NWT). I'll add here that the goalie from NWT, was named top goalie of the National Championship! Here are the results of the 1995 Women's Broomball Championships: A Pool: 1. Québec (Entremi) (Gold Medal, A Pool) 2. Ontario Champ (Barrie Satellites) (Silver Medal, A Pool) 3. Manitoba (The Storm) (Bronze Medal, A Pool) 4. Ontario Host (Parr Line) (4th, A Pool) B Pool: 5. Saskatchewan (Gold, B Pool) 6. Alberta (Last year Host) (Silver, B Pool) 7. Newfoundland (Bronze, B Pool) 8. British Columbia (4th, B Pool) Not making the playoffs: Alberta (Last year's champs!) Nova Scotia New Brunswick Northwest Territories Thanks to Patricia Walsh (pwalsh@Direct.CA), who competed for British Columbia in the national championship, for providing this information.

The Flock Story: Too Much Time On Our Hands We're not just bored. We're bored, unskilled and kind of dumb. Based on that fact alone, its almost destiny that we ventured into the world of moderately competitive broomball (the equivalent of beer-league wiffleball in the ice-bound sports world). But it was more than just destiny that turned this incredibly less than average team into the sports entertainment powerhouse that the world knows today.
It was the inspired genius of founder Jon Passman that brought this collection of talentless rabble together. It is the endless support of our fans who sadly have nothing better to do than to watch men sweat on ice. It is the tireless effort of the players that has turned such motivation and drive into so few wins. It is the complete lack of a life that has led to cool websites, trips to faraway lands and numerous hot tubs spreading the gospel of Flock. But more than anything it is the fact that we're in on the joke that makes us one of the most fun, enjoyable, and entertaining collections people ever to be associated with Broomball. Sure, we may not be winning a title anytime soon (other than "Most Likely to Laugh at Flatulence Jokes"), but damn if we don't have more fun than anyone else doing it. Current News Our Boy is All Grown Up Erich is such a fine, outstanding member of our team. Click here to see why.

    Allsorts Vs. Monkey Magic

In the second minute James Kristof openned the scoring for the Monkeys, making it seem like we would have another one sided affair on our hands. However the Allsorts held them out for the rest of the half, and almost scored when Mark Kim made a breakaway, but using the "hand sliding thing" proved to be his down fall. 1-0 Monkeys at half time. The second half turned out to be an explosion, Monkeys controlling the game to the death. James Kristof scoring one, and Bryan Macklin scoring three off some neat assists from Ben Roffey and Daniel Wong. Leaving the full time score at 5-0 Monkeys.

    PLAYOFF ACTION IS AWESOME!
Broomball fans were treated to another fantastic night of broomball games at the Truckee rink as games got “hot-n-heavy” down the stretch! In the first game of the evening, Sierra Sheetmetalers worked hard to get to 1-0 over Blue Coyote after one half of play and were able to hold on for a 2-0 victory to advance in the semi’s. Coca-Cola Cowboys didn’t have their girl player, and were required by rule to play one person short in their first game against the Ponderosa Jackalopes. This great game was still tied after 5 per side shootout when Todd Wyrick of the Cowboys deftly lobbed the game winning shot over and out of Jackalope goalie Scott’s reach for the 2-1 victory. This set the table for the semi-matchup, which the coaches had agreed they wanted to play tonight instead of next week. [This will give us an opportunity to get to Blue Coyote for pizzas before they close next Monday!]
