WHY I BEGAN DIVING
I wanted to go somewhere that was not immediately available to others. Somewhere that few had gone before. I was looking for a sense of adventure you could say. Weightlessness is quite enjoyable and unless you can afford to go into outer space, scuba diving is the only other place I know of that you can be weightless, or neutrally buoyant.
TRAINING Beginning with the basic open water program, continuing with decompression theory or technical diver, all training includes knowledge and understanding as well as skills development. Stress management and "what if's" are included in each class. After confined water training, we will "prove our training" on open water dives. These are not dives I take you on, but dives we will complete TOGETHER. Continuing to learn through experience how to handle pitfalls. You will be confronted with scenarios and stressors that have proven fatal to others. So that you may act on

NSS/CDS INTRODUCTION TO CAVE DIVING COURSE DESCRIPTION
I. PURPOSE:
Introduction to Cave Diving is a single-diving cylinder overture to the most basic principles of cave diving. The basis of this course is aimed at perfecting skills taught in the Cavern-diving program as well as instructing in additional techniques and procedures required for the most elementary of cave dives. Cave dives are planned around very limited penetrations. The Introduction to Cave Diving course is not intended to train divers for all facets of cave diving. Accident analysis continues to form the basis of the training.
II. COURSE DURATION:
Approximately 2 days (beyond Cavern Diver).
III. PREREQUISITE:
NSS Cavern Diver certification and proof of some form of advanced-open water training or the equivalent.
IV. LECTURE:
A review of the Cavern Diver program with emphasis placed on the differing techniques and procedures used in a cave. An introduction to the basic guideline configurations typically found inside of popular cave-diving locations. An increased awareness of the delicate nature of the cave system will be included. Additional techniques required to minimize potential damage to the cave system will be presented.

Cave Diving Group Welsh Section
The Welsh Section of the Caving Diving Group is one of four regional sections that make up the national body for this activity. It is comprised of cavers with an interest in exploring the underwater caves and flooded mines of the area. The CDG was formed in 1946 at the resurgence to Ogof Ffynnon Ddu in South Wales but can trace its origins back to the 1930's in the Mendip hills in the West of England. From its origins it now has a structure which is made up of a central committee and four regional sections:
  • Somerset Northern Derbyshire Welsh
The Welsh Section holds regular meetings with an Annual General Meeting in January to elect its officers: This all happens under the central committee elected by the CDG AGM - this committee oversees the running of the Group and is its link to the outside world. The CDG has its own training/examination system and produces a quarterly newsletter and occasional publications such as sump indices and training manuals. Members of the CDG may be called upon to assist in cave rescues, particularly those involving cavers trapped by flooding.

Exploring the unknown depths of the remote and spectacular Turkish cave system of Altinbesik was the aim of the Dragon Cave Diving Expedition, although nothing ever turns out quite as planned.
Martyn Farr describes the adventure

The mules lurch from side to side, slipping and stumbling on the cobbled street. Strapped to their backs are 18 cylinders and a vast array of other technical hardware. It has taken us more than two years to prepare for this "high-tech" expedition and here we are employing one of the oldest forms of transport in the world - a muletrain - as the only way to get our kit to the site of our intended exploration.
In a team of six, we have come to the Taurus Mountains of south central Turkey to tackle some of the most challenging cave sites on the planet. Our quest is original exploration at the bottom of the 1000m-deep Manavgat Gorge. Set beneath deep-blue, cloudless skies, the river Manavgat has carved its way through incredibly tortured geology to form one of the most rugged, remote and inaccessible limestone valleys in the world.
At the foot of the gorge lies the renowned and perhaps most beautiful cave system in the country, Altin- besik Cave. This is a huge cave by any standard.

The Doux de Coly is one of the most spectacular cave systems in the south west of France. The last push dive here was done around 3 years ago by Olivier Isler using his triple-redundant RI2000 rebreather during a solo dive, reaching 4300 m. He left the end of the line in 30 m depth with a max depth of 60 m during the dive. (Please click on the profile for a larger version) Dr. Reinhard Buchaly was there during Isler's dive and thus was familiar with the dive site before this project.

SCUBA Forum s="na";c="na";j="na";f=""+escape(document.referrer) The Coup d'etat... There once was a boy named Billy. This boy Billy learned to dive, became an instructor got married to a woman who learned to dive and they went off diving together and they were very happy. Then they had two kids, Billy became a doctor and they didn't dive for a long, long time. Then Billy's two children learned to dive and the whole family was very happy. They dove offshore, they took trips, they had become the "Diving Bells". Then Billy thought it would be fun to start teaching again and let surgery be "just a hobby." And all hell broke loose... He and his wife went to "medical conferences" in the Caymans where they'd dive, go to the bar and talk to Jim and Ann (who were cave diving instructors). So the next thing you know the whole family is in Florida taking a cave course. Billy's mother and mother-in-law weren't too happy about that... Then Billy's daughter Helena thought it would be fun to take an ITC and become and instructor just like her Daddy. So after two weeks of Medieval Torture she waved her life good-bye and was off certifying people left and right. And just when the now Cave DivingBells couldn't get anymore involved in diving... they bought... a DIVE SHOP. And so here we are... the Diving Bells, proud owners of Tarheel Divers... yeah we're thinking of changing our name to the Bankrupt Bells... But if you'd like to help us prove that buying a dive store wasn't the dumbest decision we've ever made... peruse around: buy a spear gun (I hear Riffe's are nice), sign up for a course (I'm a REALLY good Instructor I promise!!), or just stop by to chat... At any rate, ya'll come back now ya hear?

An Introduction to Cave Diving
First and foremost it is important to emphasize that cave diving should never be attempted without specialized training. Hundreds of divers have lost their lives in the submerged caves of Florida, Mexico and other locations, including Open Water Scuba Instructors. The majority of these lost souls having attempted cave dives without specialized training. Cave diving fatalities rarely involve properly trained cave divers. On the rare occasions that they do, the diver(s) usually failed to follow accepted cave diving procedures. Many cave divers might object to having this discipline included in the Techincal Diving section of SportDiverHQ. Regardless of their perceptions, cave diving fits well into the definition of technical diving. The activity involves an actual ceiling, the cave passage, and often involves a decompression ceiling as well. Like most technical diving disciplines, cave diving is an equipment intensive activity. Becuase the diver does not have direct access to the surface, everything needed for survival must be backed-up. Virtually every piece of life-support equipment is carried in duplicate. Due to this fact, cave divers have refined equipment configuration into an art.

What makes overhead environment diving significant? The single greatest safety factor in openwater diving is that, no matter what happens (equipment malfunction, loss of breathing gas supply, loss of buddy, etc.), openwater divers always have the option of making independent, controlled emergency-swimming ascents (ESAs). Two factors make this possible:
