London Marathon training run about 20 miles. Meet at the Rugby Club Car Park 9.00 a.m. Club AGM Thursday 27 March 8.15 p.m. If you would like a matter added to the Agenda details must put in writing to the Secretary by 13 March. News Report 17 March Generally fast conditions underfoot at the 49 th running of the Orion 15 in Epping Forest on Saturday would normally have seen the record books rewritten, but a change of course to avoid the increasingly busy road crossing meant that the route took in more hills and rough ground and consequently times were slower than in previous years. Springfield Striders travelled with high hopes of a team victory, but despite excellent runs from Paul Dobson, Kevin Harris and Martin Rea were beaten into second spot by a strong Woodford Green squad. London Heathside and the hosts Orion Harriers shared third position.

Cross country enthusiast, Miriam Gaskell, after being selected to run for Wales, ran in the 15th World Mountain Running Championships held this year in Malaysia on the 19th September. The race was held in the foothills below Mount Kinabalu (the highest mountain in South East Asia). She qualified by coming 2nd in the trial competition up the 'Sugar loaf' mountain of Abergavenny. As it was an U20's competition, Miriam, being 16, was the youngest member of the girls team of three.

The course was a challenge, being the toughest race she'd ever run, with three 300ft climbs along trails through beautiful forest over a 4000m distance. Out of the 35 junior girls who entered, she came 25th, with one other Welsh girl, Sian Pritchard in 21st place and the third girl not completing the course. Out of about 16 countries with teams of 2, Sian and Miriam managed to gain a respectable 7th team place for Wales. The girls found a major problem in acclimatising and getting used to the humidity and intense heat of temperatures up to 32 degees celsius. "The country was beautiful, it was a great experience, and I hope to go next year when it will be held in Germany."
