Beach Dangers
Poor conditioning, heat and other outdoor concerns can make for a summer to forget if you aren't properly prepared.
by Brenda Chan, P.T. Summer is finally here, and for many players that means a welcomed return to the beach or grass courts. But before you go, consider the risks inherent in the outdoor game. You may have played indoors over the winter and spring, but you won't be in the same beach shape that you were last August. That can leave you open to injury. In addition to injuries resulting from poor conditioning, there are other risks. Let's take a look at some potential outdoor volleyball dangers and what can be done to avoid them or treat them if necessary. SPRAINS, STRAINS AND TENDINITIS
Dr. Keith Feder, an orthopedic surgeon and a director of sports medicine for the AVP, says the most common overuse injuries in beach or grass volleyball involve sprains, strains and tendinitis of the lower back, knees and shoulders. The best way to prevent these injuries is to train properly before playing competitively. Feder stresses the importance of first developing flexibility, then building up strength and cardiovascular fitness. It's important to include playing outdoors as part of the training program so you can build endurance.

The Cobra volleyball System
E ndorsements
"Cobra net systems are the most effective portable net systems I have ever used. Being an AVP professional beach volleyball player for the past 10 years I have been involved in many tournaments, camps, clinics, and exhibitions. I have always had problems with the safety of the other net systems as the guywires made me nervous to be around. The cobra net systems don't have guywires so I don't have to worry about the dangerous area outside the poles. It also saves a lot of room around the court. The tension is great and they are easy to set up. I took a few of my Cobra systems down to the beach one day and all the pros enjoyed playing on it. They also agreed that the Cobras were easy to set up and most importantly the safest portable net systems they had ever played on. I do clinics for adults and children and feel great knowing that I have the safest and most convenient systems around, the Cobra!" Albert Hannemann AVP, professional beach volleyball Champion "After using the Cobra Net System since 1996, I can honestly say that there is no better. Not only is the Cobra the safest portable system on the market, but it also sets up and performs to perfection. You can get the Cobra to set up and play like an indoor net. Once you have used the Cobra Net System, you will never want to set up a conventional guywire system again!"
