Gliding through a foot of fresh snow deep within the winter wilderness is an experience not easily forgotten, but to safely enjoy the backcountry in winter you must possess a variety of skills necessary in an environment where the margin for error shrinks with each stride away from civilization.
From your first strides into the backcountry to ski descents of the High Peaks, our progression of courses, the Ski Mastery Method , will help you develop your skills and increase your knowledge of nordic skiing. All of our courses are taught in the backcountry, on the wide variety of snow conditions provided by nature. You should realize that backcountry skiing is very different from skiing on a carefully prepared surface at nordic or alpine ski centers. The difficulty of the skiing can vary tremendously with different snow conditions, therefore we suggest you rate your ability conservatively. If you're unsure of your ability, contact us and we will determine your skiing level according to our definition. To meet your particular scheduling requirements, any of these courses, and all advanced skiing instruction, can be arranged through Private Instruction
Students provide their own nordic ski equipment for all ski courses. Lug-soled, rugged boots, metal-edged skis and climbing skins are an asset in the backcountry. For our Backcountry Basics course any touring or light touring equipment will be adequate; however those wishing to acquire more advanced skills will need sturdier equipment. Please

Check out the NEW CLIMBS PAGE (added March 10, 2000). Also, try the new ICE PHOTOS PAGE I added on Feb. 10, 2000 The BC Ice Climbing Report exists to give all the ice climbers out there somewhere to go in order to find out what's in, what's not, and generally what's new in B.C. Ice climbing. WARNING! Ice climbing and mountaineering are extremely dangerous activities, which can kill or seriously injure you. You rely on the following information at your own risk. The Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia does not in any way guarantee the completeness or accuracy of the information provided. Also, conditions can change very rapidly. The Climbers' Access Society of British Columbia provides this information about ice climbing conditions in BC as a service to climbers. This site started from weekly submissions from Lillooet, but has since taken on a life of it's own. If you have any new and current information on BC Ice yourself, feel free to submit it for posting on these pages. Keep the submissions coming as they help build an accurate picture for climbers from distant lands. If you have any comments on the page, or wish to make a submission (stories welcome!), please contact Adrian Burke Number of Visitors (since 12Dec99):

B.C. Ice Climbing Report
Welcome to the CASBC Ice Climbing Report. These pages exist to give all the ice climbers out there somewhere to go in order to find out what's in, what's not, and generally what's new in B.C. Ice climbing. Initially, we're starting out small, with updates from the Lillooet area only. We look forward to expanding our information as other climbers submit their local ice conditions to us. UPCOMING EVENT: LILLOOET ICE CLIMBING FESTIVAL 2002 January 25th to the 27th, 2002 (Note New Dates!!) The Lillooet Ice Climbing Festival - 2002 The 2002 Lillooet Ice Climbing Festival will be on the weekend of 25 - 27 January, not 18 - 20 January as stated earlier. The event is scheduled for January 25th to 27th, 2002, and all information can be gleaned from Paul at melvins@lillonet.org . It's our understanding they will have a website soon. We hope to help Paul where we can, esp. in regards to contacts. Please don't hesitate to contact Paul if you've got an idea/ proposal/ sponsorship/ donation for the 2002 event! Lillooet Ice Climbing Maps Update Apologies to all who attended last year's Fest and haven't received a map yet. They've taken a backseat to life this summer (did get a lot of great climbing in...), but aim to have them out before the local ice is in.
