Design Philosophy

As we hike boats to the put in, the murmur of water over stone rises to meet us. It is with both fear and longing that I approach. I trust the river will fill my heart with happiness, but my respect runs deep. My partners and I relax in the powerful flow, working with the water as we travel downstream. Mindful of each other's safety, we dance in and out of eddies, watching each other over drops. It is a partnership of trust that brings us through. I will hold onto the beauty of this day, grateful for rebirth in the arms of the river.

Nantahala River Rafting The Nantahala River offers the thrill and excitement of riding the river rapids in a raft, canoe or kayak. Eight miles of waves and swift, clear currents make the Nantahala River a delight for almost all ages interested in learning whitewater rafting. The trip takes a little over 3 hours and contains several class I and II rapids, with an optional class III at the end. No matter if you go-it alone or with a guide, it will be a memory you'll treasure for a lifetime. Please note that in my extensive research I have found that no one under the weight of 60 lbs. is allowed to ride down the Nantahala River. Also, the above photo is a picture of rafters taking the Wesser Falls during competition. These falls are not open to the public for rafting without a guide and special arrangements.
Tuckaseigee River Rafting

Kayaking and Canoeing
During the semester, we'll be setting out on the river on a couple of kayaking and canoeing trips. Some trips will be designed to give a little experience in moving water and to get used to maneuvering around obstacles. Anyone interested in going on kayaking trips must have previous experience or have attended at least one kayak rolling session. Kayak Rolling
To attend any of the kayaking trips, you must have been to at least one session in the pool. These sessions are Tuesdays, 8:00 to 10:00pm at the Campus Rec Center. At the rolling sessions, you will learn wet exits, rolling the kayak, paddling techniques, and general water safety. These sessions are for members only and are held to give people a chance to become comfortable with the kayaks before getting into moving water. Be sure to check the club calendar for the specific dates of the rolling sessions. Equipment
To participate in kayak rolling, you only need your swimsuit. Kayaks, paddles, life-jackets, and helmets are provided by the Trail Club. We can also provide this equipment for day and weekend trips with the Trail Club. Whitewater kayaking can be exhilarating, but only if you are prepared. Become a member and join us at the rolling sessions to find out what you've been missing.
