My work schedule interferes with a lot of activities that require indefinite commitment. Dustin had taken a couple different forms of Karate when he was younger and had expressed a desire to participate in another program. Being a single mother, it is difficult to commit to a specific schedule. In February of 2002, we dropped in and spoke with Master Koo. He explained his concept and the numerous classes offered each week. The first thing that appealed to me was the flexible schedule. You may attend as few or as many classes as you like. There is no pressure and you do not fall behind. As with anything, you get back what you put in. The second thing that looked good to me was the lack of contracts. Everything is month to month. Before moving to the Atlanta area, in 1999, I belonged to a health club. That contract was near impossible to break. I promised that would never allow that to happen again. With Master Koo's plan, it didn't have to. After reviewing the program, I agreed to enroll Dustin. Dustin and Master Koo convinced me to give it a try, also. The term "workout" was not in my vocabulary. I agreed to one month to appease my son. Within two weeks, I began to see an improvement in my abs. When the second month came around, obtaining a flat stomach was my motivation for writing the check. Now, I do not function properly if Koo Self Defense is not a part of my week. The classes still kick my butt and I still whine about it but, it is well worth the effort.

I have been in the United States since 1991. I was enrolled at Cartersville Primary school in 1994 and entered Kindergarten at the age five. Currently I am a brown belt with 2 black stripes. Koo Self Defense's training is very tough and takes a lot of energy. KSD's training is helping me with the co-ordination and stamina for Jump-Rope and Soccer. Jump Rope I have been in the Cartersville Elementary School's Jump Rope team since the 3rd Grade. My coaches were Mrs. Caswell and Mrs. Murphy. This year, my 4th grade, my coaches are Mrs. Caswell and Mrs. Camara. Soccer Last year (1999), for the first time I played soccer for the Cartersville Recreation League. I played for the 'Cosmos' as a forward. I helped members of my team by setting them up for goals and personally scored 3 goals for the season. I will play again this year !

I am originally from Kentucky where I grew up on a farm. After high school (and some college), I joined the United States Marine Corps. While in the Marine Corps, I got to see a lot of other countries and meet a lot of people. Among the many things that I learned was to defend myself in hand-to-hand combat and to push myself beyond physical limits. The way that I ended up finding out about Koo Self Defense is a long story. I will cut it as short as possible. While in the Marine Corps, I met my future wife, Sandra. After the end of my tour I moved to Dayton, Ohio. I was there for a couple of years until Sandra was able to get orders to Rome, Georgia. I was able to get transferred to a branch in Kennesaw, Georgia. When you look on a map, Cartersville is almost exactly in between the two so that is how I ended up here. Sandra introduced me to a retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant Jay Platt. Jay’s wife, Paz is also a Marine who was stationed with Sandra. Jay told me about Master Koo’s self defense classes. It sounded like something that I just had to check out. I went to a Saturday class and thought that it was awesome. I joined Master Roger Koo's studio on February 3, 2001 It is now April 2002, I have been to every class (166 to April 2002) that I can attend. My current rank is Red Belt and I go to class as often as I can. You will be amazed at how much your stamina and endurance will increase.

I attend Cass High School as a Junior. I always wanted to learn a martial art for fitness and self defense. A friend told me about Master Roger Koo's studio in downtown Cartersville.
