New York Fast Pitch League Rules The New York Fast Pitch League uses the official rules of The Amateur Softball Association of America. The rules below amend or clarify the official ASA rules: A. Runners cannot leave the base until the ball leaves the pitcher's hand. A player can be picked off by a force-out throw beating him/her back to the base; a tag out is not necessary. B. We have bunting in our league. A foul ball bunt with two strikes results in a strikeout. C. No Stealing in our league. D. You may advance a base on a fly ball out, even in foul ground. E. The pitching is modified fast . Your pitcher may extend his/her arm to 12 o'clock, and not in a windmill style. The ball must be shown at all times, meaning you cannot hide the ball or twist your wrist/hand in the release. The ball must not be outside the pitcher's wrist on the backward swing or any part of the delivery. One foot must be in contact with the pitching rubber throughout the delivery. The shoulders and driving hip must be squared to home plate when the ball is released. Our strike zone is "arm pits to the top of the knees".

Economic Impact of Hosting ASA Tournaments
    by Brian McCall
    H
ave you thought about trying to bring a tournament to your city, but needed more information to convince your city leaders? The following article is designed to show how beneficial it is to host an ASA tournament, and why more and more communities are inquiring about bringing tournaments to their town. The ultimate question will be, "What is the economic impact to our city?" Economic impact is defined as the monetary benefit a community receives for hosting an event. Each dollar spent by an individual attending the event -whether a participant, family member or spectator -for housing, food, equipment, clothing, gas, entertainment, souvenirs, etc. is compiled into the total economic impact scenario. The Amateur Softball Association has conducted previous studies using predetermined data on national spending patterns that indicate the following breakdown for every dollar spent by a visiting individual: Lodging
    Restaurants
    Vehicle operations
    Souvenir/Gifts
    Other
    Entertainment
E ach community utilizes a different formula to determine the per day expenditure of an individual and the dollar turnover rate. The dollar turnover rate is the number of times each dollar will be spent before that particular dollar leaves the community. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce uses a turnover of seven times the national figure.

Sport Swap Ltd FINAL RESULTS Men's Fastball Women's Fastball Mixed Slo-Pitch Skills Competition Softball Calgary kicked off the 2002 season by hosting the 25th Anniversary 1st Pitch Games on April 20th and 21st. All 54 teams enjoyed 2 wonderful days of sun and warm weather while playing their round robin games. Unfortunately, the 25th Annual games will go down as one of the shorter events in past years. A blizzard, wind and cold put an abrupt stop to the games on Monday evening and resulted in the cancellation of the remaining games on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 54 teams did play 86 of the 112 scheduled games with every team getting at least 3 games. Five types of ball were played with teams from Men's Fastball, Modified Fastpitch, the Calgary Women's Fastpitch League, Mixed Slo-pitch and Modified Softball all hitting the diamonds.
This year especially, many of the teams used the 1st Pitch as their 1st time outdoors this year. As well as the teams trying out their players in different positions, the umpires from the Calgary Softball Umpires Association used the event to train their new and one year umpires in game conditions. Many of the experienced umpires took part in 1st Pitch to limber up for the long season ahead.
