http://www.norglen.ca/about-rg.htm
Rhythmic gymnastics is a group sport combining gymnastics performed to music with various apparatus, including ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes, and clubs. Emphasis is placed on improving flexibility and coordination and having fun. Rhythmic gymnastics began in Scandinavia in the 19th century when two schools of though about gymnastics were combined. Originally developed to provide an overall physical fitness program for girls and women of all ages, rhythmic gymnastics evolved primarily during the 1950s. The sport was first recognized by the FIG (the international governing body of gymnastic sports) in 1962, and the first championships were held in Budapest, Hungary, in 1963.

Gimnasia Rítmica / Juegos Olímpicos
Rhythmic Gimnastics is only for women and there are only two events within the Olympic Program: individual all-around competition (introduced in 1984) and team competition (introduced in 1996). There are five different accessories (hoop, rope, clubs, ball, and ribbon), but individual routines are performed with only four of those five. The all-around competition consists of a qualifying round and a semifinal round; the ten best gymnast in the semifinals advance to the final. In the team competition, all five accessories are used.

  • This is where you have to do exercise and dance routines to music with five pieces of equipment. It's a very graceful sport - if you're a good mover down your local disco you'll probably be great at it. You use a ribbon, a hoop, a ball, a skipping rope and clubs. And you get to choose whatever music you like!

Welcome To Our New
Rhythmic Gymnastics Program
What is Rhythmic Gymnastics?
The sport of Rhythmic Gymnastics combines the grace and musicality of dancing, the hand eye coordination of traditional ball sports and the acrobatics of gymnastics. It’s fun for beginners and with sustained practice can be a challenging competitive sport for groups or individuals. Rhythmic gymnastics takes place on the floor exercise mat and uses hand apparatus: ball, hoop, rope, ribbon and clubs. This sport is part of the USAG sanctioned sports for girls.
Meet Coach Kamelia
Your daughter will love working with KameliaVelkova. Kamelia received her training in her home country of Bulgaria. This two time national champion and international competitor is happy to be part of the staff here at Jewart’s and excited to bring this popular European sport to the North Hills. As head of our rhythmic program she will teach the girls both the fundamental ballet and dance skills along with their apparatus work. This sport builds self-esteem.
Schedule of Classes
We have several special opportunities to learn rhythmic gymnastics with Kamelia.
